chris the cynic
Weapons I remember a while back there was talk about including an extra weapon in the mod, of course there was a question of what the options were and whether or not it was worth it. Is there any plan to do that, or have you decided that it’s better to just focus on recreating Dark Forces and not adding extras? - By my count it there are three working weapons in the game that you don’t get, two non-functional weapons in the game, and one that is not even in the game but is part of the back-story (sort of.) Used in the game: The officer pistol – Just a pistol, like the Bryar Gamorian Ax – An axe DT Boss cannon – Fun thing that fires out extra missiles five at a time in additional to the normal missiles and the energy balls. In the game: The Dark Trooper prototype weapon - a big repeater that uses plasma carriages and (presumably) fires the same energy balls as the normal DT Cannon. Moff Rebus’ Gun – no idea what this is or what it does Part of the back-story: The Bryar Rifle – all we know about this is that one was modified to make Kyle’s pistol. - It doesn't seem like there's much to choose from and you guys are doing enough without putting in extras. Ack
Well, the Bryar Pistol is the one Kyle has, only he has modified it. So they probably don't look very different, however Kyles is probably better. Moff Rebus' gun is a very interesting thought though. It looks like it can do quite some damage and would be a pretty good unlockable/secret. Here's a pic: *EDIT* When looking at the "rebus gun" it kinda reminds me of the Concussion Rifle...
Nilock
I like the idea of extra's, don't get me wrong. The focus for the DFMOD team is, recreating the orginal first. adding our own stuff later. ... I'm on some heavy consideration on redoing the sewers level, now that I know so much more about single player level design. I never got the amount of feedback I would have liked on my first level. razorace
Pist! Lets finish all the OTHER maps before we go back and do revisions.
Nilock
For me to redo a level now would take almost next to no time. I'd say one solid month of work would do it. Then again that level was a bitch to make everything work correctly. *sigh* Put your hand up if you want to see a revision of the sewers level? razorace
I like revisions. But I think the sewers is pretty good as is. I'd rather see some of the other maps get done first.
SlicerDude
I'd actually been planning to play through the demo again and give some specific suggestions, but I still haven't gotten around to it. The level's pretty good as it is, so as long as the dianogas get improved (which I heard should be possible with the switch to MP), I would advise working on the unfinished levels first, given the current shortage of mappers. Of course, the actual team's opinion is probably more important here. Actually, because you're doing all this on your own time, it's really up to you if you think it's worth it. So, how's that for a clear, easy response?
Salv
Theres nothing wrong with Sewers worth enough of a revision, I think it turned out great. The only 2 things I would do is a texture revision (as you know) and use shader lighting to light things up instead of entity lighting.

Tesla(DF)
I asked colin to make me an example elevator, he had the nerve to put an entity light in ^_^

Has anyone seen Republic Commando? in that game you get to use a knife to knife your enemies, and it just gives the game such a great feel. Having an axe in the game could be great. On hard when you run out of ammo you could start punching, then pull out an axe:D I'm not suggesting anything M rated, since star wars is a fairly PG kind of thing. It doesn't have to be bloody or brutal in any way to be used well. just one more thought. What bugged me about the Jabbaship level was how you killed a huge monstrous dragon with your fists alone. I would like to give the following suggestions. First of all, when you are captured you no longer have your shield (and weapons, DUH). I also believe there has been talk of more than one Kyle skin, one without a shirt? maybe chains on his hands? perhaps Kyle was beaten/tortured/whipped even. who knows... just a thought. Second: what if several Gommarians were in the pit (this needs to be pulled off well and realistically) if we could get the Gommarians to somehow be in the pit with you, but not get eaten, or get eaten (I'm not picky:)) you could kill the Gommarians, take their axe, and use it on the dragon. What does anyone else think? this could be a lot of fun for people; people always love melee weapons. take a look at Halo. please consider and discuss these suggestions. at the very least I'm trying to lighten up this dark forum... um... shutting up now... chris the cynic
The idea of an extra weapon (which I don't actually care about one way or the other, I was just wondering because it had been mentioned before) is for an added treat, you're talking about a change you’d need to partake in. I admit it would add to the realism, but I’m not sure I like the idea. It might sort of be like a puzzle to figure out I suppose: I’m punching I’m punching I’m punching Why won’t it die? Fists have no effect. *Lightbulb over head* I need a weapon. Then look for an ax, and the pig you need to kill to get one. Or, simple solution, have the cutscene involve Kyle throwing a Gamorian into the pit or pulling one in with him, or something like that. - So long as people are making suggestions, I think it would be nice if you could distinguish Jabba’s favorite kell from the rest. A collar or something, I don’t know.
