PrtyLizardJedi
Hello I've tried my hand in modelling with gmax after recently noticing a tutorial svösh mentioned in one of the modelling threads. So far I haven't tried my hand in putting these new models (melee weapons) into either game, because I'm still improving my work. So far I haven't got the capabilities to create skins from scratch, so if someone wants to volunteer, I'd appreciate it. Some models are slightly coloured to give you an idea, but that's because they haven't been attached, i.e. they're still freely moving but overlap each other. I so far use mostly spline modelling for most of my stuff, so if someone has a pointer to give on how to do it better, I'd welcome it. Well my colleagues, here they are. Katana Battle Axe Cutlass Fleuret Halberd Longsword Shinto-Style Katana Spear Sword Katana They're mostly medieval, seeing as that's a favourite time for me. T7nowhere
Good work. Though the Battle Axe needs sharper edges, its a bit to flat right now. The spear looks a bit to short or thick but it could be the angle of the screen. Other than that the only other thing I noticed is that some of your models appear to have twice as many faces that they need. For example the hilt for the Katana looks like it has 20 sides, that is definately more than you need to make it look smooth. Here a little TIP to make low poly models look high: When your model is in editable mesh or editable poly mode and you select the sub object polygon, the rollout "surface properties becomes availible. The section that is important here is the "Smoothing groups" With this handy tool you can make even 6 sided cylinder(or Ngon) look as smooth as a 20 sided cylinder. To do this simply select the polys on the left or right view and click on the 1 in the Smoothing groups section, you should notice a pretty immediate change in how your model looks. And here is a visual example of what I'm talking about: Normal no smooth group applied Smooth group 1 applied to the side polys
PrtyLizardJedi
Yeah, that. Thanks for the hint. And for the katana, at least the hilt is basically a spline circle, but if I use ready objects, it's smoother.
