Archon II
I'm currently working with 3ds Max 7, after messing around with GMax for a while , and I seem to have a really dumb question to ask. How in the world can I get my own textures onto my objects? I've been trying forever to get a .jpg image of M4-78 to place itself on my sphere, but it don't work! I'm used to the whole drag and drop thing from GMax, but now I'm lost.
Pavlos
Wow, Archon II, how on earth did you manage to get a hold of 3ds Max 7?! The intro movie for the droid planet will look amazing if you can get it working fine. But I'm sorry I don't know anything about 3ds Max 7, I have only ever used Gmax
Archon II
Well, I have the trial version at the moment, so I got 30 days to make the movies, which should be enough time because I already had them all set out in GMax and I know what I have to do. If it takes longer, I have 2 other computers that I could load the trial on and continue from there. So I got about a few months, or I might just buy the thing, who knows. But anyways, unless I can figure this out, I'm in trouble.
Nadman
(First post here, so bare with me plz) Ive only had limited use with Gmax, but i do have 3D studio max 7 as well. The problem you have sounds like a simple one for me to solve. As you said, then you cant see the texture on your object (in your case, a sphere) First of: Make sure you have selected a texture from the database (you should know how hehe) Then drag it onto your object, and it should appear as a simple color (red, green, depending on your settings, all mine are gray) Now, you can see it until you select the option to show on the object. In short: press this button: http://www.3d-anarchy.com/KOTOR/Help/mapping.JPG It can be activated at both the main map, or a sub map, in case you have more (if you use transparentsy, or such) Hope it helps. If this was not the problem, then plz explain better
TheOssusKeeper
i wasn't aware you could use the .jpg file format in the game, i thought they were all .tga, maybe try using .tga instead of .jpg (don't quote me on that though) but worth a try... Nadman
Think he was talking about 3D studio max, textures, it support everything from gif, to ASSIISI or whatever it is. But yes, the game only supports TGA format as far as i recall.

No I've done stuff like that when I needed to get something done but couldn't afford to pay the price (Sounds rather threatening doesn't it?) Archon II
@Pavlos - Warning: Shh, Master. Such attributes in a droid are highly illegal. Ok, let me try to explain a bit better. I'm making the intro movies for M4-78, so it won't be used in-game. I'll render my animations as a .avi movie, then convert that into a .bik to use in-game. My problem is that I need to give the suface of a sphere (M4-78) ,during the space intro, a texture I've created (.jpg). Now, I know I need to open the Material Editor. So, what do I choose? Can I have a detailed step by step process? What I've been trying to do is choose "Bitmap" and then choosing the texture (.jpg). It loads in my Material Editor, and then I try to drag it onto my sphere, but it won't let me. I can't press "Put Material To Scene" either... Nadman
Ok, here is a step by step guide 1: With 3D Max open, and the sphere ready. Open The material editor 2: Click "Diffuse" Check Box 3: Select "Bipmap", and locate the texture, activate it. (Texture should now show in material editor. 4: Drag and drop the texture on the "Planet" you wish to render. 5: Click on "Show map in viewport" check box 6: Press F10, and render away (Make sure you chakge the settings) For step 2 and 5, see this picture (Steps, marked in red boxes) http://www.3d-anarchy.com/KOTOR/Help/mapping.JPG YOu may also want to play around with the light setup and such. If you want, then you can make the texture avaiable somewhere on the web, and i can set it up for you, with lights, textures, athmosphere (or however its spelled) and make it for you, so all you need to do is to render it

Archon II
Ok, time for another question. I've been making the engine glows for the Ebon Hawk using some Lens Effects (Glow) under Video Post, but whenever I render, they don't appear. I press the "Running Man" symbol, and I get a .avi, but no glow, just everything else. Help?
