TronusNavigon
Has anyone noticed that if you try to sign up as a member of the SWG Official Forums it's next to impossible? Well I'm having that problem, but I'm kind of glad I haven't been able to actually log into the forums. The Official forums are a mess. Posts are constantly deleted especially rants on the NGE or anything remotely negative. There are players literally begging for straight answers. 50% of the threads are bug related, this in a General News category. And one of the funniest things the players have come up with is a three word answer to anyone who posts any type of bug or in-game crash: "Working as intended." It is really quite pathetic, especially when you do a google search on anything NGE related. You can break down almost every article, review or feature as on e of two things, A rant or corporate spin. There is hardly an in between at all, a situation which practically screams corruption. It is the same with these forums. Has the community always been like this? This is all really quite tragic because I know there are some devs and suits on the SEO end that probably hate their jobs right now. And I am really stopping myself from delivering the usual rant of, "How could a group of five or more men and women with an assumed educatio n and an understanding of basic cause & effect not see this happening?" I mean, when it comes down to it, MUDS, the precursor to MMORPG's suffered the same t ype of setback when massive changes would occur. User base would flock and considering their were dozens of other good MUDS to choose from, you could forget trying to get an influx of new users. That veteren base constantly online was the glue that the newbies stuck to. Ghost communities simply fade away after awhile as did ghost MUDS when servers were shut down. And with all this spin and BS happening and the insane amount of chaos happening on the official site forums and the serious animosity and seething betrayl many veterans are feeling, I think it is safe to say, and you ma y quote me on this, that SWG has just delivered the final nail in its coffin. This is not just a game, there is a huge corporate entity behind this, a conglamorate at that. The repuation of this game is shot to hell and there are allegedly doorslams and layoffs in the works, allegedly, of course. Still, with that kind of malevolence clouding and overshadowing any and every decision SOE makes at this point, there really is no brining Galaxies back now, and we can all just feel better knowing that we are simply riding out the last wave of this game until the servers shut down and the next big thing comes along. So now, is SWG a harbinger of what's to come for MMORPG's or the entire computer gaming industry as a whole? It happened with the Atari 2600, it happened to early PC gaming, a huge crash and then a major resurgence. Something tells me this is just the beginning.... Kitkat
If the game survives it's because there is no other MMORPG that does Star Wars. And now, the dream of being a Jedi is open to all at the start so more will pick the game up. I believe until LA gives the SWG contract to another company, SOE and SWG will stay the same, and will always be around.
jordie8472
I believe that SWG will survive because it's the only Star Wars oline game. However, I understand you point that the online gaming industry might crash soon. I believe that it will, eventually, due to oversaturation. SirLancelot
I don't hink that it will crash, but there will be a "shakeout" and only the strong ones will remain. Of course, I hope SWG can be one of those left. I personally think that there are too many MMORPGs and none of them really add anything innovative to the genre, just a different thematic.
