Programs for 3d modelling and texturing such as Maya and 3DMax are heavy and complicate for a beginner. They're not like Windows' painting and non-the-less, require a good system for rendering. XML editting is way easier if you have some basic programming knowledge. Programs such as MS Web Visual Developer make your life even easier.
