lexington476
Will the older X-Wing, TIE Fighter, etc games run on a modern Windows XP computer??? If there anything I have to do to get them to run? An emulator?
Wildstar
The DOS versions of X-Wing and TIE Fighter (3.5" floppy version, but also, more commonly, the Collectors' CD-ROM) will need something like VDMSound or a DOS emulator in order to run on WinXP. The Windows sims (and this includes X-Wing and TIE Fighter from either the "X-Wing Collector Series" or "X-Wing Trilogy" bundles, as well as X-Wing vs. TIE Fighter {with or without the "Balance of Power" expansion} and X-Wing Alliance) should be able to run on WinXP, but there are some pitfalls. X-Wing 95 and TIE Fighter 95 (as noted above) need a compatibility fix found on LucasFiles.com in order to run with hardware 3D acceleration, and there is an installation glitch that may occur if the file autoexec.nt is not in your Windows\system32 folder; that file can be found in your Windows\Repair folder, so just copy the file over to the folder I mentioned above. Hope this helped.
