I need to find something!

Recommended Posts

It's a simple quest for those willing.

I'm looking for a screensaver. Simple, yes?

no.

See, it needs to simulate accuratly the movement of the planets. In real time. I would like it to show where the planets, asterois, and comets are in the solar system are.

also, i would like it to be 3d.

anyone know of anything like this?

I remember seeing something like that a while back. I'll do some digging and see if I can find it again. It may not be exactly what you want though.

Have you tried fixing your screens with duct tape? I suppose you could draw planets and whatnot on it with a marker, if you wanted...

Guys, leave the Rabbit alone.

The thing Cracken's looking for sounds a little like a game in one of my stories.

"Orbital" is like the Galactic Alliance's version of pool (or billiards, if you prefer). You have to send a meteor through a simulated star system, either hitting or missing (depending on which of a dozen variations you're playing) different moons, planets, asteroids, and space stations.

Thing is, the whole solar system is animated in faster-than-real time, and the computer you play on simulates the gravity waves of the different bodies. A shade too close you'll get caught in orbit, a hair too far on a "slingshot" and you'll go spinning off on a random direction, until you get caught in the next gravity well.

It's like playing pool on a trampoline with hamsters running around. eek.gif

Turn off the computer and open the curtains.

If it's night, you should get roughly the same effect. biggrin.gif
