Weird stutter, happens on 2 machines

Well on my old computer, I had a weird stutter in space campaigns. Regardless of how many units are on the map, every couple of minutes I get a stutter interval, then it passes. I thought it was just my slower older rig. Move to new rig that can blast out 9k+ 3d05 marks, and it STILL does this, exactly the same. I can put it at the lowest settings and it does it. I can put it at max settings, 1900x1200, full everything, and it still does it.

 

 

What the hell is wrong with it? I figured it was my old computer, but, this is a fresh XP install with 37 running processes, 2 gigs of ram and an overclocked 7900GS, it doesn't seem like video lag at all. What gives?

 

Forgot to mention it's a 1.83ghz Core Duo. So processing power is definately not an issue.

'Stuttering' sometimes can't be explained sometimes. I have a game called The Movies and that stutters alot - and on hundreds of other peoples machines.

 

You will need to go through the normal 'make sure drivers are up to date' - especially your direct x9c (use the one on your CD with the game). Then turn off any anti virus software, any daemon tools (or smiliar).

 

It might be an idea to post your dxdiag as well.

All drivers are brand new and up to date. Directx is up to date. NOD32 and DT were both disabled. I can run BF2 on max everything on a 64 person server no framerate problems at all. Fear is no problem, same with Oblivion. But I have the exact same problem on 2 completely different systems with EAW.

Any suggestions? I can take it down to 800x600, and after it's started in a saved game, it will come back again and again. It's like this.

 

 

2 seconds normal

stutter for 3 ticks on my resource intake

2 seconds normal

stutter for 3 ticks

etc, etc for about a minute, then it is fine for a little bit, then it repeats this again.

 

I'd like to play, but it gets highly annoying so I'm sorta getting sick of Empire at Lag.

you are running far to many processes!!! You only really need about +/- 7

essential window processes, the rest will only slow down your computer and cause shuttering in games. Download the free KillAll application from the internet and terminate all you redundant processes (in your case +/- 20 processes) with the push of a button and free up a lot of memory and processor speed. Hopefully this will fix your shuttering problem
