phoenixkwb
I just purchased a new copy of Star Wars Knight of the Old Republic II after thoroughly loving the origional. I installed my brand new copy onto my computer. I then immediately updated it using the update option on the opening menu screen. Once everything was installed and updated (patched), I tried to start the game. The menu screen disappeared and about 20 seconds later I received this error message: "Origional Disk could not be found or authenticated". As I mentioned above, thei was a brand new, legimate copy of the game, not a burned version. This happened everytime I tried to start the game. I then uninstalled the game and reinstalled. This time I did not install the patch. When I started the unpatched version, the game menu disappeared and nothing happened. When I opened up the task manager, it was running in the background, but was nowhere to be found. I have since reinstalled several times over several days to no avail. Please help. I am currently running a Dell Inspiron 8500 laptop. I meet all of the recommended hardware requirements, except for my video card (NVIDIA GeForce4 4200 Go (Dell Mobile)), which meets the minimum required. Here are my specs: [sWKotOR] ReportDateTime=9/14/2006 10:16:11 PM SysInfoVersion=v1.00.60 GameExists=1 GameVersion=v2.10.427 GameInstallLocation=C:\Games\SWKotOR_2\ [OS] Name=WinXP Version=Windows XP v5.1 build 2600 Service Pack 2 Service Pack=Service Pack 2 Status=Pass [swapFiles] C:\pagefile.sys=2000 [CPU] CPUCount=1 CPUSpeed=2592 CPUFamily=15 CPUModel=2 CPUStepping=9 CPUVendor=Intel CPUName= Mobile Intel® Pentium® 4 - M CPU 2.60GHz Status=Pass [Memory] RAM=512 Status=Pass [Disk Free Space] C: (NTFS), UNICODE=10.15GB Status=Pass [CD-ROMs] DriveLetters=D:\ Drives=QSI CDRW/DVD SBW-242 [Video] Video Card Name=NVIDIA GeForce4 4200 Go (Dell Mobile) Video Memory=64 Desktop Resolution=1280x1024x32 @ 75Hz DirectX=DirectX 9.0c (4.09.00.0904) OpenGL Version=1.5.2 OpenGL Vendor=NVIDIA Corporation OpenGL Renderer=GeForce4 4200 Go/AGP/SSE2 NVidia Driver=6.14.10.6742 Vid Card Status=Warning Vid Card Driver Status=Pass GL Status=Pass DX Status=Pass [Audio] Sound Card Name=SigmaTel C-Major Audio Status=Pass ;Game Options from swkotor2.ini [Display Options] FullScreen=1 Disable Movies=0 Disable Intro Movies=0 Sort Modules=1 Width=640 Height=480 BitsPerPixels=32 RefreshRate=60 [sound Options] Sound Init=1 Disable Sound=0 Force Software=0 [Graphics Options] EnableHardwareMouse=1 FullScreen=1 RefreshRate=60 Width=800 Height=600 Emitters=1 Anisotropy=1 Frame Buffer=1 Soft Shadows=0 Brightness=57 V-Sync=0 Texture Quality=1 Anti Aliasing=0 [Game Options] Disable Movies=0 [config] firstrun=
Torthane
Make sure the disk is not scratched or dirty. If it is, try cleaning it off and then try to install/run kOTOR II again. If you have any other computers that will run it try installing it on one of them. If it works on one of those computers then the problem lies with your PC. If not then the disk is most likely the problem. I hope you can get it running.
Det. Bart Lasiter
Are you starting it from the CD's autoplay executable or just a desktop shortcut? If you're starting it from the dektop shortcut generated by the installer, it may start the autoplay executable in the game directory. Perhaps the one on the CD may ensure the CD is detected properly.
