Question: Delayed party levels bug

Hello, i wanted to try a sc(2)/clr(18) which seems to be a quite challenging and powerful combination, but i read on the forums that NPCs will be heavily delayed in levels, and since i want a party game, not solo, is this bug fixed already, or are there any cheats which would lvl-up party members up to my lvl. Thanks.

I played a scout5/guardian15 in several games of KotOR1 on the pc. I don't recall ever encountering any "delay" for my NPCs.

Sure, the main character will be higher level, because he/she gains more xp early on and also gets a "free level" when switching to a jedi class, but other than that it was all pretty much above board - they all gained levels while my main character remained at level 5. So I don't think there's a problem there.

Holding a scout at level 2 is going to be difficult, though, since vitality and saves will be low, making certain parts difficult, particularly if you choose to fight Bendak Starkiller and during the final escape from Taris. But while I've never done it myself, I know that others have, so it's not impossible.

so it's not impossible.

ye its a challenge. Scoundrel(2) btw, my mistake. Bendak will die on mines/grenades i think, or something like that. At least i hope. :)

Thats mighty strange. What level were your party members as you reached lvl20. In my game with a 7/13 character they were lvl18, which is a 2 levels delay. From what i heard, the lower your first class, the more "higher level" you will be compared to the party, while technically it shouldnt matter. Would be quite a waste, after fighting with a scoundrel2 through Taris, only to find the party totally outleveled and unplayable. :D

Zat

Yes, but i think it has something to do with a "free level" when switching to a jedi class, which Jediphile mentioned, where instead of one "free" you get plenty, which messes something in game mechanics. Or not, i dont know, thats why im asking.

He will, since mines/grenades are not level-dependent. The real problem is surviving the blasts he does get off, which I thought was a bit of a challenge even as a 5th level scout. What can I say? Make sure you have plenty of shield units...

Yes, my NPCs are usually around level 18 when I hit level 20, but that happened whether I was scout5/guardian15 or scout8/guardian12. There was no difference whatsoever. It seems to me that the main character is always higher level than the rest of the NPCs (and Carth, being your first NPC, advanced just a tad faster than the rest). When you make the switch to a jedi class doesn't matter, I think.

My main character usually reached level 20 before I left for the unknown world (Rakata Prime), while my NPCs are always level 20 by the time I reach the StarForge.

Thank you all for the answers, i will try the low-lvl way. Actually im doing it already. Bendaks blast problem(quite powerful idd) was solved by approaching him, so he switched to melee. Seemed kinda he had low AC or something. Was easy to hit. He is dead btw :D The most difficult thing was his death blow, since we are below lvl4, kinda instant kill sometimes. Actually im a jedi already and idd gamesave parameters appear to be OK. which is strange because there are quite a few topics about this issue on the "internet". oh well.

When the party is awarded XP the main character gets 100% of the amount, while the rest of your party members only get 80% of the amount. If I remember correctly there is a file in the game data where you can tweak the XP scale for every party member individually (npc.2da?).
