urluckyday
So, I've been lookin' around recently at computers and whatnot, and I've really been seeing a high amount with the "Buy This and get the Windows Vista Upgrade" (Home Premium) usually. So, my question is, are these upgrades just like the barebones of Vista (DX 10, New Security, etc.), or are these the full versions. It just doesn't make any sense to me. If someone could shed a little light on the situation for me, that'd be great! ~legowar
Astrotoy7
yep. Vista Home Premium and above are able to be installed ontop of your XP installation. It is cheaper, but you need your original and legitimate XP disc/key to get it working. This page from BenQ gives you a good rundown of the express upgrade options. You cannot put your 'upgrade' version into a clean drive and do a fresh install. Also, there is no rolling back from the upgrade - so you will really need to make a backup(via the inbuilt utility vista has) to keep if things go bad. (otherwise you will need to reinstall XP then vista again !) my suggestion: get a full oem copy from a pc supplier. 1/3 of the cost. Im using RTM(Ultimate) thanks to to my employers TechNet subscription but thats a different story mtfbwya
