Ok, this is does not specifically happen in KotOR only, but it certainly happens there. A lot.

For the past 2 weeks, I've been getting this :

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v470/lukeiamyourdad/swkotor2007-03-0217-51-53-72.jpg

I can assure you that it's quite fun. This screenshot was taken from my KotOR start screen. Normally, you see Malak and the options but as you can see, there's weird green lines.

I mention KotOR because it happens with it quite often, but none of my other games are spared this problem (though sometimes, instead of green, it's red or purple or [insert color]).

What's worst is that this also happens when I'm doing nothing. My computer is running nothing and suddenly, poof, weird lines. When it's displaying the desktop, sometimes, I'm able to discern my various icons and wallpaper, though it's blurred by the lines and I can't read anything. It also happened on my Windows start-up screen!

It would not be so much trouble if I could find an error message, but there is none. Even worse, there is no pattern whatsoever. Sometimes, a game will run for hours problem. Another time, with the same game, it will do that in just 2 mins.

I honestly have no idea what the hell is going on. I had suspected overheating, but the fans are clean and the sensors indicated low temperatures.

I have recently bought an Acer 1706 17'' monitor. It could be the culprit but I doubt it. It's barely 1 month 1/2 old. The other would be my old ATi Radeon 9000 PRO. Maybe it's old and starting to die or something.

Any kind of help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Well I think it may be your graphics card as it does say on the back of the both Kotor games under the requirements section if your are ATI Radeon graphics card that it need to be using version 9200 or better.

So sorry to say it looks like you need a new graphics card. I could be wrong on this though so you might want to wait for some other people to reply to this thread before going out and buying a new card.;)

Hope this helps.:D

are you using the Catalyst drivers or third party drivers??

also, are you trying to overclock your card??

and, yes, your card is probably starting to show its age. if you've got $50 to spend, you could easily upgrade your card to something much better. ;)

hmm, well i was kind of curious if you were doing either of those things as they can lead to serious display malfunctions if not done correctly.

i'm curious, though, if your card isn't perhaps getting a bit too warm. do you know what the GPU temp is under load?? hint: i use Rivatuner's Hardware Monitor to log that sort of info when i'm testing things. ;)

Unfortunately, that is impossible. My GPU does not have a sensor on it so I cannot get a reading on the temperature.

I did suspect overheating though and I cleaned my GPU fan. Didn't change a thing. Though the AGP slot where my card is installed in is incredibly close to my sound card, leaving only 2 cm of space between both. It could block airflow. I'll try that, but I doubt it'll change much.

Besides, it happens at the Windows startup screen too and that's not supposed to be a source of stress for my card.

hi lukeiamyourdad,

What you are experiencing is commonly known as a glitch in the Matrix, you should take the blue pill immediately.

Before you do, can you tell me if the desktop icons and computer functionality remain intact during these episodes? Which is to say, clicking on a desktop icon opens the appropriate window or launches the appropriate program without hangups?

I would fill out the warranty papers and find the receipt for your monitor. In the mean time hook up an alternate monitor and see if the problem disappears. I'll check back here later, Peace
