brief Posted May 26, 2001 Posted May 26, 2001 I think I have an idea what you're talking about.... so I won't comment on the story. But just to let you know, here in the States, Buffy airs on "The WB Network" (WB=Warner Brothers), and they have been promoting the latest episode as "The WB's Buffy Series Finale," which is kind of a misnomer, although technically the statement is true. Basically what happened was that Joss Whedon, the creator of the series, was in negotiations with the WB Network for how much the network should pay for the series next year. As it is the WB's most popular show, he (and/or his agents) wanted more than what the WB was offering. So when UPN (another TV Network in the US) offered to pick up the series for more than what the WB was willing to pay, they decided to accept the offer. So that's it. BOOM. No more Buffy on WB. So, if people didn't hear about the move (which the WB is not going to publicize), they'd think that this last episode really was the end of the entire series, when in actuality it's the end of the series' run on the WB--it will simply pick up where it left off next season on a different network. Appropriately, the writers have written the episode in a way that, if you don't know that the show is going to be continued, it could be seen as the end.. but if you know that the show is going to be continued, it would be seen as a cliffhanger (when the episode was filmed, it was probably still unclear if Buffy would be continued). A similar writing tactic was done last year for Friends, when the stars of the show hadn't reached a renegotiated contract with the network even as the final episode was being filmed, so they didn't really have a cliffhanger like they did so many years before. Instead, they just had everyone (except David Schwimmer, who was filming a movie in the UK at the time) hug in Monica and Chandler's apartment, excited about their announcement that they will be married. ------------------ ...who was at the filming of aforementioned Friends episode--one of the perks of living in L.A.

If I'm entertained, then that's good enogh for me.
