Something's Wrong?

Hullo, I'm Nyctophobia, and I'm a Star Wars fanatic. And I admit it: I've never played KotOR before, and I'm ashamed. So I've seen the light and gotten me a best of Star Wars PC games collection to set things right. Now if I could only get the damned thing working!

Here's the gist of it: I installed and started up the game, and I'm greeted with a black screen. The sound seems to work fine, but the graphics, if they show up at all, lag like there's no tomorrow. This obviously makes playing the game a bit more difficult if you can't see what button you're pressing. If I can manage to make it through the Character Creation, usually by listening for sounds as my mouse passes over a button, the intro movie lags. If I make it through that, the gameplay itself lags (if there's another word to describe what it does, I don't know it) so badly until it crashes. Game Over.

I ran a system checker to see if it's just my computer. Here's the results:

OS: Windows XP /Passed

CPU 1783 MHz /Passed

RAM 959 MB /Passed

HD C: (NTFS) UNICODE 218.10 GB free /Passed

D: (FAT32) UNICODE 617 MB free

DirectX version 9.0c /Passed

d3dx9_30.dll Yes /Passed

Sound Devices Realtek HD Audio rear output /Passed

Display devices NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE /Warning

TnL Yes

As you can see, the only thing that was wrong was that I have an NVIDIA GeForce 6150 LE (256MB) and it recommends a NVIDIA GeForce4 Ti (128 MB VRAM), but it still says that the Game Requirements are met. So that means it should work... right?

I'm not a computer person. I'm not even a very smart person. Can anyone tell me what's going on or what I should do to fix it?

Well What don't understand is your Graphics card is a whole 128MB better than the reccomended one, so your Graphics card is alot better than needed.

2 Things to try download the lates version of direct X which you can get here;

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/directx/default.mspx

The other thing to try is updating your graphics card drivers, if you dont know how to do that you can download a manual one I found below having done a Google Search, but I would recommend going through the official updating system.

You can also try downgrading your OpenGL drivers to an earlier version. I don't know if they've done any game engine improvements for the the Best of PC version, but in the original version my game had some compatibility issues like instability and broken graphics with newer versions of the graphics drivers.

Fortunately it was enough to put the older OpenGL DLL files in the KOTOR game folder to make the game use them, so I didn't have to use the older graphics drivers they came with, which might have caused problems with newer games.
