Gameplay reduced to a crawl...

I'm trying to re-play KotOR, but always end up shutting it down after two minutes because of the intense lag. I'm trying to find these so-called 'Non-Windows Generic OpenGL 1.4.0 drivers', but Google doesn't get me anywhere, because I simply don't know exactly where to go. I do a Google search, and get plenty of links, but they're all to solutions for Nvidia cards, or lead me to an impossible-to-navigate site that is supposed to be able to get me the drivers I need. Here are my system specs:

I know that my Graphics Card isn't up to snuff, but that's never been a problem before. I don't know why my computer suddenly isn't up to specs for the game - this time last year, it ran fine. I haven't upgraded/updated my hardware in that time - and I'm reasonably sure my Dad and Brother haven't been messing with it. If I need to, I'll upgrade my card, but I don't see why I'd have to all of a sudden.

A little help would be greatly appreciated - preferably a direct link to a download, not another link to a site that I won't be able to navigate. :xp:

If your computer did run the game decently before without any different hardware it might be a driver issue. KOTOR is an old game which doesn't seem to be very "forward compatible" all the time. I noticed that I had to use older versions of the OpenGL drivers for my ATI Radeon card for KOTOR 1 to play at all without crashing every 5 minutes, like it did with the latest drivers. Fortunately it was enough to drop the OpenGL DLL file in the KOTOR game folder to make the game use it.

I haven't used any Intel graphics cards so I'm not sure if the same applies there.

Are you using the drivers found here?

If you want to use your computer to play games that might be a good idea regardless, most games only tend to have decent support for nVidia and ATI/AMD graphics cards nowadays. And it would probably make the games look a lot prettier. If you don't need state of the art graphics cards you won't have to sell your soul to be able to afford them either. :)

i agree. if you have an open PCI-Express x16 slot on your motherboard, this card is a great solution that will give you a huge performance increase while letting you use DirectX 10 effects (if you upgrade to Vista down the road, at least). that is one heck of a good price, too.

if you don't have a PCI-E x16 slot, my guess is that you should at least have an AGP 8x slot. for that, i can recommend this card or this card. and either of those cards will give you a huge performance increase without breaking the bank.

hope that helps. ;)
