Char Ell
OK. The cutmeister is stumped and dejectedly so at that. My PC, which I built in Oct. 2005 just so I could play TSL, will no longer run TSL. I've played the game on this very system 4+ times. A couple of weeks ago I decided to pick up where I had left off on my 5th playthrough but lo and behold, to my surprise and chagrin, TSL wouldn't run. Launcher.exe runs fine but when I click on the Game button my system thinks for a moment or two and then, nothing. So I tried running swkotor2.exe directly instead of through the launcher but still nothing. I ran Windows task manager and saw swkotor2.exe appear on the processes tab but it was only there for a couple of seconds and then it dropped off the list of processes. I checked the Windows log files and found diddley-squat in the way of any error messages relating to KotOR. The only real error in there was my system apparently has occasional difficulties renewing it's IP address from my router/gateway. Everything else was purely of an informational nature (system shutting down, system starting up, processes/services stopping and starting, etc.) Next step, uninstall and reinstall, right? I did that with the same results as before. I tried uninstall and reinstall again but this time I tried running TSL before I applied the 1.0b patch. Ding-ding! It worked! I quickly applied the 1.0b patch and tried running TSL again. Imagine my surprise when TSL exhibited the same behavior as before, launcher works but swkotor2.exe won't run for more than a couple of seconds. I've been able to replicate the behavior of uninstalling, reinstalling, running unpatched TSL just fine, applying the 1.0b patch, and then TSL stops working. I get no error messages and can't find anything else out of place on my system. Anybody have any ideas?

Char Ell
Let this be a lesson to me to thoroughly follow the troubleshooting steps. After reviewing the contents of my swinfo.txt I just posted I noticed this section. [CD-ROMs] DriveLetters=E:\,X:\ Drives=PIONEER DVD-RW DVR-110D "Wait a minute. I don't have a CD-ROM drive using E:\. That is my USB drive. My DVD-ROM drive is X:\." I deactivated my USB flash drive in Windows which made E:\ disappear from Windows Explorer and voila, TSL runs now. Strange how the game didn't have a problem in it's unpatched state but did after I applied the 1.0b patch. After over a week of trying to figure this out, it took me posting my problem to get me over the hump. Thanks for the help everyone!
GTK + JA = fun
From cutmeister> "After over a week of trying to figure this out, it took me posting my problem to get me over the hump. Thanks for the help everyone! " yeah it is funny, I had no clue how to fix my TSL problem but then I posted and I figured my issue out on my own lol . . .. I guess if you post then it gives you the the power to fix it lol glad it is fixed, I know how you feel when you just want it to work and it won't and the major relief you get when the game works finally
tk102
This is how it is in real life too when you have to call tech support for something. They make you go through the mundane "what are you specs?" blah blah blah until you end up fixing your own problem. It's the secret truth. Oh yeah, you're welcome!
