Tysyacha
STAR WARS: PURGATORY Forty years after the Battle of Yavin, Jedi Grand Master LUKE SKYWALKER is embroiled in the fiercest fight of his life: that against his own consuming grief and fury. JACEN SOLO, the son of his sister LEIA, has taken the mantle of Sith Lord, calling himself DARTH CAEDUS. He is the one who struck down Luke's wife, MARA JADE SKYWALKER, in order to reach the final heights of his power in the Force. Luke, however, knows that facing this fact means facing the darkness within. He yearns for revenge while utterly despising it as well. Perhaps his target lies in TYSYACHA, a vagrant student who is lodging at the Jedi Temple. Luke senses the darkness around her, and he senses that she once--even very recently--had ties to LUMIYA, Jacen's now-deceased Sith mentor. Being a Jedi, Luke does not want to confront her, as he also does not want to confront his own guilt in the death of the former Dark Lady... "Vengeance, anger, emotion. These are all paths to the Dark Side." "What must I do, Master Yoda?" "Let go of the one you fear to lose..." Luke Skywalker knelt down, haunted, in his private chamber at the Jedi Temple. His graying head lay in his hands, and though no sobs came, he knew he wept. Mara was gone. His love, his life. He'd once been her pinponted target, back in the days when she served as an Emperor's Hand. Now, not only was Palpatine dead, but his servant was as well. Former servant. By the Force! Did it have to be this hard? Life was cruel at the moment. Luke suspected it would be cruel for quite some time to come. Mara was lost, and so was the man who had proven himself as her murderer. Proven himself to whom? Jacen Solo had long since given up any desire or pretension of any desire to try and impress Luke. Lumiya? It was hard to imagine Jacen so eager to please, like a young boy, like his very own Ben. Whom, then? If he was a Sith now--Jacen--then who was his new Master? Luke's spine tingled. Jacen was the Master. He would take an apprentice, never deigning to remain second-in-command as he had been to Shira Brie. Why had he referred to his old girlfriend by her former name at that moment? No matter. His mind was tormented, and in his state, that could be forgiven. Jacen could not. Would not. The thing about redemption was, you had to want it in order to get it. Vader had wanted it. He'd still loved his son, and Luke was not sure that Jacen really loved anyone now. At least not loved in the way Luke himself knew love. What was it, anyway? A warm, fuzzy feeling that knew nothing of things like war and betrayal and revenge? Was it blind? Truly blind? Luke shook his head. If that was the case, what was love for? Suddenly, the Grand Master of the Jedi Order sat bolt upright on his knees, terrified. He'd just felt a wave of darkness. It was surrounding him--or someone-- and he knew he had to act fast. His hand touched his saber. What would Mara do? Luke asked himself, poised to leap into action. He knew exactly what Mara would do, and it sobered him. She would kill whatever shadow was approaching him without a second thought. That was what she'd tried to do to Jacen, but because of his heightened Sith powers, she'd failed. Was she all right, in the netherworld of the Force? Luke did not know. At this moment, this second of tension and pain, he did not feel her. Would he, ever again? Consciously controlling his hot fear, Luke waited.
