A couple of newbie questions.

Alright guys, I have some newbie questions here. I realize they're probably fairly obvious. I'm currently running on the trial version of the game and plan on downloading it, but first I need a few things answered. Be patient with me, I humble my n00bness before all of you. I'm slowly getting a hang of the game and am leveling myself up. Anyway, if you could direct me to topics that have already discussed this (I've lurked around a bit looking for them but am either blind, or haven't found any), or answer a few questions, it would be much appreciated!

If there is a guide/walkthrough which explains ALL of this, feel free to link me to that as well. I looked around on the main SWG site and they explain the basics of character creation, descriptions of the universe, etc. but not things that should be fairly obvious (once again, perhaps I'm just blind).

First of all, is there a way to change servers or are you stuck with the server you started out with from the very beginning? If possible, how do I go about doing that? Also, how do you actually find the name of your server once in game? I completely forgot what I signed up for in the beginning. Star...something? It was reccomended.

Secondly; clothes, armor, etc. I found the device in which you can bid/auction off items but are there actual dealers within the universe, and if so, where? I have a feeling I'm completely missing something there.

Third; housing. I know the planets that have housing but where do you go to actually get housing. It says there's a daily maintence fee and what not, so do you pay with the credits you've earned every time you sign on, or actually, daily?

Fourth; guilds. I've heard about/seen guilds I am interested in joining, but I'm not entirely sure how to go about doing that in game.

Fifth, "friending" people. Is there a way to do this? As in, PMing other people throughout the game with your whereabouts and such?

Sixth; the most ridiculous and noob-worthy question of all: PvP battling. Do I need to reach a certain level to do this, do I send out requests, yadda yadda.

I do have a faction, set profession, etc.

Faction: Imperial

Race: Trandoshan

Profession: Spy

Level: 12 (not high, I know. I'm working on it.)

I should also explain that this is my first MMORPG ever, so I'm really not savvy in how to go about doing these things at all. Perhaps I need to actually subscribe and not be on the trial? No matter. Anyway, once again, sorry if these are all obvious questions, but please help me out if you can. Thanks!

Yes, you can do a character transfer, it costs $50 though and you can only take so much stuff with you, not really sure how it works (i am on starsider myself)

Secondly; clothes, armor, etc. I found the device in which you can bid/auction off items but are there actual dealers within the universe, and if so, where? I have a feeling I'm completely missing something there.

Yes, you can find the vendors/dealers, usually under vendor search, if you're buying off the bazaar directly, usually its non-trader professions selling stuff, can be helpful if you're a trader, or trying to find cheap armor.

Third; housing. I know the planets that have housing but where do you go to actually get housing. It says there's a daily maintence fee and what not, so do you pay with the credits you've earned every time you sign on, or actually, daily?

You can put houses on every planet except endor, yavin iv, kashyyyk, mustafar, and dathomir, you can input alot of credits into housing maintenance pool so you won't have to pay for it every so many hours

Fourth; guilds. I've heard about/seen guilds I am interested in joining, but I'm not entirely sure how to go about doing that in game.

You contact a member of a guild, you'll see tags above people's heads like <MC> when you examine someone it shows what guild they're in, if you ask, they can contact their leader or co-leaders and those people can get you in the guild. Guilds are really good to join...though watch out for some of the lame drama...just had something stupid happen with my guild, some other guild's mayor just outright moved into the city and took over...we're planning to move out..

Fifth, "friending" people. Is there a way to do this? As in, PMing other people throughout the game with your whereabouts and such?

Yes, you use /addfriend to add someone to your friend's list...to send them a pm, or Tell (as its called in game) you do for instance /tell kioet' then your message.

Sixth; the most ridiculous and noob-worthy question of all: PvP battling. Do I need to reach a certain level to do this, do I send out requests, yadda yadda.

You need to be a member of a faction, or at war with another guild. The first is easy, once you are a member of a faction just type /pvp that'll get you to either combatant status or special forces. special forces is where you can attack and be attacked by other players of the opposite faction, if you are already combatant type /pvp again to get special forces. to go back to combatant from special forces, type /pvp, it will take 5 minutes until you are set back to combatant.

Welcome Netris! I am new to these forums but have been playing for a while and can help you :)

No you can not change servers unless you pay. You can make characters on other servers. At your level if you are not happy with the server you are on I would suggest changing it. What server are you on?

Auction/Buying. This is all player driven. Loot and stuff that is made can be put on the Bazaar or vendors in players homes/businesses. There should be a tab up top where it says vendor search where you can browse vendors in the location you are at, the planet and then the galaxies. When you buy something the waypoint for that vendor shows up in your datapad (I THINK! You may have to put in in manually). You then hop to that planet and goto that location. Same goes for auction except all the auctions take place in static cities (Non-player) and usually have less valuable stuff on them (from my experience).

Houses! One of my favorite parts of the game. You can put houses on non-adventure planets (Don't have a list on me) and you put money into the house. I forgot the time range in which money is taken out of the money pool in the house. Basically in the state the game is in you should have 0 problem keeping a house running. If it runs out of money in the pool then it will just take it out of your bank. The bigger the house the more you pay!

Guilds. Make friends! Simple as that. Talk to people in cantinas, in the wild, where ever! On my server I can have an hour long random conversation with people just by saying hi. Also you can post in your server forums on the Galaxies board.

Friend lists and PMs are there! Hit escape to bring up them menu and bring up community. Click friends and you will see your friends list. Add people to it and to PM them just type /tell friendsname Hey! . Also you can email them when they are offline. Ultra cool to keep in contact with people when you have a busy week or different sleep paterns.

There is a PVP battleground that I can't spell cause I am not really into that scene. You can PVP when ever you want, but if a 90 comes around you are pretty screwed though you might last in some huge 20 vs 20 battles for a bit.

As for you being on the trial it really limits you. You can't own a house I believe nor can you have more the 50,000 credits. This is a great MMO and only getting better. If you are a Star Wars fan and enjoying it buy and sub! The game is 20 bucks with a month free (14.99 a month) so you pay about $5 for the game after the free month. You also get a cool AT-RT that's one of a kind. DO NOT SELL IT.

Enjoy your time and if you are on the Starsider server hit up Vimora or Huria.

Hello again!

Thanks to both of you. I take it Starstrider (which is what I'm on) is a good server then? I'll stick with it, I was just curious if it was easy to switch servers and... yeah, I don't really have THAT huge of a passion to switch for fifty bucks. Haha.

I'm having a blast so far. It's not incredibly busy like WoW, Guild Wars, and some other games I've done trials for, which is a huge relief on my part. Plus, so far, the majority of veteran players I have conversed with have been more than generous and patient with new players. The NPC missions are also really fun and give you a chance to explore the planets to their full extent.

I did select to be in the Special Forces, which I'm having fun with so far (though upon JUST recieving that faction, an NPC Jedi chucked his lightsaber at me, instantly killing me, ahahahaa, it was outstanding). I'm currently loitering around on Naboo, doing a few side missions.

I'm moving in a few weeks, so after I do that, I'll go ahead and buy SWG. It's definitely a lot better than its reputation makes it out to be.

Netris, just so you know Starsider is a big roleplay server. Not that there aren't non-roleplayers there but a lot of people do. So if people come up to you and start talking about the force and how Vader killed their parents, they aren't on drugs *laugh*.

Ahahaaha! Oh Lord Vader, you dog!

But yeah, I gathered that much. It's alright. I'm a roleplayer myself, so I won't be too creeped out.
