Lvondas
First off, I have this same problem with Jedi Academy and I bet a few other games out there that I haven't tested. Also I don't have this problem with World of Warcraft videos. If I go into KoToR and skip the cut-scenes then I'm fine but if I let one play or go into the videos menu and have a look at ANY video my computer freezes (like the trailer for Republic Commando). Sometimes within seconds, sometimes 10s of seconds. I usually hear a cracking sound while the video is playing and this tells me that a freeze is near. I hear one big zap sound when the freeze takes place and sometimes I see a few brightly coloured lines across where the video paused. First off, it isn't my sound drivers fault (I disabled them and I still got the freeze) and Its not my graphics card driver's fault because they are fully up-to-date (radeon x1650) AND out of desperation I installed the Omega drivers for my card. This changed nothing apart from my options in my GFX Card config thing. How useless Also I only get this freeze when IN GAME. I can play the Republic Commando trailer and Intro to KoToR outside the game no problem (in full screen too). I have virus scanned my computer, I have fixed my registrys, what more can I do? Why can't my computer handle 2003 videos in games (JKA and KoToR but can handle 2004/5 videos in games (WoW)? ChAiNz.2da
BINK movie format is notoriously "crap" (my official bone-ified opinion.. hehehe). Their compression codec reeks frankly... especially compared to what compression exists today for video.. However.. since they're not options, you may want to try downloading and installing RAD Video Tools if only to get the newest codecs possible http://www.radgametools.com/bnkdown.htm It *might* help out with playing the movies in-game (cross your fingers). Other than that, you can try lowering any non-essential graphic boosts you've got going, or at least stepping them down. For me, while I can play with anti-aliasing 8x... my system responds much better using 4x. It's only two steps down, but the game engine (graphic wise, play wise & stability) seems to be better optimised for lower AA settings go figure..
