Nailrabbit Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 Avast! I'm currently attempting to make my first custom model, and have gotten my greasy mitts on both gmax and the official modding tools package. So, following the tutorial on character modelling, I copied the XSI importer and the vmdexp.dle into the gmax plugins folder. But when I ran gmax - oh noes! "DLL <C:\gmax\plugins\XSIImporter.dli> failed to initialize.", as well as an identical message for vmdexp.dle. I've re-downloaded both gmax and the tool package and I can't seem to get past the problem - can anyone help a newbie out?
Psyk0Sith Posted September 30, 2007 Posted September 30, 2007 Gmax cannot export a valid XSI file to work with the compiler. You need 3D max 4 or up to version 8 (with proper plugin) to compile characters.
Nailrabbit Posted October 1, 2007 Author Posted October 1, 2007 Hrm, thanks for the reply. I'm actually trying to -import- the root.xsi into gmax so I can build my model around it - do I still need to get myself a copy of Max to do this?
Psyk0Sith Posted October 1, 2007 Posted October 1, 2007 The SDK plugin was written for max 4 and not for Gmax so it wont work. Unless you can find an alternate version (or script) written for Gmax it looks like you'll have to rely on another app to do it. I'm pretty sure milkshape 3D can import it and also XSI mod tools, once imported, export it to a format supported by gmax, obviously .
