Darth Payne
I am requesting a tool that does one thing and one thing only, merge 2da's. It should be like the jrl merger, which is very easy to use if you have the proper files. Is it possible to make such a tool? And no, Kotor tool is a bit advanced for rookies to use, especially for those with very little in terms of computer skills.
Ferc Kast
There is one already in existance that does exactly what you said (and more): http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=153075
Darth Payne
I actually already knew about that one. It's mainly for mod makers not mod users, it actually says so on the thread. What i'm looking for is a tool that merges 2da's, only. Thanks for the help though.
RedHawke
The reson there isn't an end-user tool like this is commonly there is alot more to be done than simply merging the 2da file... you have to edit all the related game files to accomidate the possible changes in the 2da file. If you don't then glitches, crashes, and full-on lockups can and will occur. Hence it would be a near impossible task to make a tool that could do this because of all the variables. stoffe
The reson there isn't an end-user tool like this is commonly there is alot more to be done than simply merging the 2da file... you have to edit all the related game files to accomidate the possible changes in the 2da file. Indeed, you need to know how a particular 2DA file is used and what other game data references it (and in what way: by line number or row label) to be able to effectively merge them. After you've merged the 2DAs all those other places need to be updated to point to the correct rows in the new, joined 2DA file. This is why there is no "one click to make mods compatible" for mod users, and the available utilities (2da merger, tslpatcher etc) are mainly meant for modders to use or configure. They help by automating the dreary parts of combining mod data, but they can't do all the job for you.
