Guest Lord Tirion
For those of you who played Age of Empires and Rise of Rome on the Zone, you will know what I am talking about: Remeber the constant civs and units that always flooded each game.. Choson, Hittites, and then once in a blue moon somebody would play a different civ? Remember the same units always being used.. Catapults, Legions? Well, I know this is just demo but I already feel that deja vu feeling again. Now, every swgb game I play has almost the same combos.. Pummels and Artillery. In a way I am disappointed. I was hoping for troop fights with the occasion vehicle battle but once again, troops became just about obsolete like they did in AoE with exception of the Legions. I guess the Mech Destroyers have become the legions where as the artillery and pummels have become the catapults. And each game it is the same battles taking place. Anybody else notice this? Guest Lord Tirion
Bobio, thats my point. It is not the players fault for this, it is the game mechanics. If they could make vehicles way more expensive and make troops more effective, that would actually encourage more troop fights and so on.

darthfergie
Troopers such as Dark Troopers and Grenadier troopers and even AA troopers are very valuable!!! Bounty Hunters are one of the best!!! Hvy. Troopers are good when you need extra men. Also once the wookies come around you'll see what ground troops can really do!!! So don't count them out now or you will be a great psycological disadvatage when people attck with troops and you think "HAH, only pittiful troopers they cann't do anything to me!!!" Guest Luke Skywalker
I don't feel the same way Trion Nexis. I think that troops are very valuble and that all sorts of troops are needed for defferent situations. Well at least in SP it seems so. But I agree that people will start to play as only two different races and pummels will come in by the hundreds. Imagine 80 pummels come into a base! Youd have no way to defend your self. Guest Lord Tirion
I really hope you guys are right. I really do. It is just in my experience so far in SWGB (and please dont get me wrong, I love this game and enjoyed each game), it has just always been the same routine. Yes some people will throw a couple bounty hunters at me or some Dark Troopers, but not the legions of them like we want to see in an all out war like we saw in The Phantom Menace with "1000 Gungans going against 1000 Droids" as Dennis Muren said on the collector's edition of TPM. Probably it is the kid in me that wants to see huge armies duke it out and see who wins and watch as they drop off one by one and bodies upon bodies are laying on the ground decaying. =P

Rdog22
Once the scenario editor comes out you can make your own multiplayer games, and if possible, block the production capability of pummels, cannons, and mech destroyers. This is a bit extreme though, because some times you gotta use a few artillilery and pummels. MAybe LA will give us a production limit on pummels and artillery in the scenarion editor. Lord JayVizIon
tirion, i understand your thoughts on the subject. units will come in handy, it just depends on the style of the player and the situation you are in the game that will matter, as well as other factors. put it this way, Iniquitous_Rex whooped my gluteus maximus with AA troopers when i sent in a barrage of imperial aircraft. yes, imperial aircraft are not as strong as other civ aircraft, but my point is that if he didn't have those, i would have won the game b/c all he had left was dark troopers, some jedi, and some mechs, all of which have no ground to air capability. i think all in all, troops will have some significance in this game. pummels and artillery are good for building breaking, but can't defend themselves. Guest Lord Tirion
Bobio, if you read your first reply to me, what you stated was the exact reasons of the game mechanics that make the game the way it is with hardly any troopers =) That is what I meant by that. Then I followed up that thought with a reply of my own. Well, I played 4 more games for the Nexsis Demo League tonight and again, mechs mechs mechs, artillery =)
Guest Morph *Nexsis*
I agree with you Tirion that I want to see more of a balance in favour of troopers. For me that was one of the great thing in the movies. I love commanding troopers to attack in large numbers, well all 75 of them, but if they are relitivley weak against Mechs etc in the final version then I'll just avoid them replacing them with a stronger equivilent in order to win the game. Guest Morph *Nexsis*
We'll have to get a multiplayer game going where each player agrees only to have troopers and low level Mechs etc.
