So how big and capable could the Rebel Fleet be at the time of the second Death Star's destruction ? We hear how so much of the Imperial Starfleet is despersed across the galaxy engaging other Rebel ships then we have the Rebel Starfleet that engaged the Death Star and the hidden Imperial fleet. Obviously the ships in the assault would have to be some of the most fearsome the Rebels could muster. Do you think that surprise Rebel attacks on lone Imperial Star Destroyers could have been successful ? Could there have been entire fleets of Mon Calamari Cruisers battling Star Destroyers for control of their homeworlds ? Where do you think the Rebel fleet was at the time of the Battle of Hoth ?

Good question, the situation is that in the case of the Death Star II, it had to be destroyed, or nothing would matter. It lacked the weak points that the first Death Star had and it could destroy any planet. It had to be taken down then and there. Do I think the entire fleet was there over Endor, quite possibly, Mon Cal cruisers were originally Passenger Liners.

As of the battle of Hoth, the Rebel fleet was scattered across the galaxy. The loss of their main base of operations (Hoth) was obviously a significant blow, so they spent quite a lot of time running from the Imperial fleet and trying to regroup without being followed.

Basically all the Empires ships were doing what Vader's task force was doing. The Empire lost it's focus dealing with Hit-and-run tactics which left the Death Star II more vulnerable. Besides, why would anyone bother with a system that only had a primitive Forest moon orbiting a gas giant?

 

For a quick strike, it was all the Rebels needed. All the Capital ships needed to do was act as a screen for the few fighters that entered the deathstar.

 

The interesting part is, with the group that was to destroy the shield generator.. how would they have been able to leave once the death star was blow up? The M. Falcon would have had a hard time picking up all the rebel troops, and i doubt even Han could break an imperial blockade with the shuttle

The situation was that if they didn't win over Endor, it wouldn't matter because the Emperor would be running around with an invincible doomsday weapon.
