Solid State Drives

I'm still supporting the hard drive. Solid state drives are still WAY expensive and still are not quite up to matching the physical size per GB. You can almost pack 256 GB into a laptop drive, but that is still over twice as much for half the storage of a 500 GB hard drive.

Solid state is still improving, but is still four times per GB compared to a hard drive. If performance is an issue, my suggestion would be a normal hard drive with a 12 GB solid state cache that would store data for instant access and a more massive/cheaper storage capacity.

The issue with hard drive pricing is that there is a flat cost (about $40) and then a cheaper price per GB as you increase the capacity. Solid state has about a $5 flat cost and then $2 per GB that increases the denser you get. The price of 8 GB RAM is greater than the solid state drive in most laptops.
