Danfun64 Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 I want to make personal missions for x-wing vs tie fighter, but it doesnt have and demo support, the other games do but i dont want to use x-wing alliance for certain reasons or x-wing due to its limitations. Tie fighter is like x-wing vs tie fighter, with demo support, and a limitation to the imperial side. so i was hoping to port the xvt cockpits of rebel fighters into tie fighter to make them playable. What version of tie fighter should i use and how do i do it?
Wildstar Posted May 7, 2009 Posted May 7, 2009 I'm not sure what you mean by demo support (Do you mean you only have the XvT demo version?), but you should be able to use XvTED, which is Troy Dangerfield's freeware mission editor for XvT.
Danfun64 Posted May 8, 2009 Author Posted May 8, 2009 a lot of fps have them, a demo is the equivalent to the file in the film room, which xvt lacks
Wildstar Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 Oh, the film room. I'm not really sure how to go about making the Rebel fighters flyable in TIE95. You could try copying the Rebel fighter OPTs to TIE95, but I'm not sure what else, if anything, you need to do. There's also the possibility of modding your copy of TIE95 making .clp files unable to be viewed in unmodded TIE95. Your best bet, then, is to do your film work in XvT under Fraps (which is how many game trailers are generated).
Danfun64 Posted May 8, 2009 Author Posted May 8, 2009 and how do i make films in x-wing vs tie fighter without the film room?
Wildstar Posted May 8, 2009 Posted May 8, 2009 I told you the utility to use...Fraps, which will make a video of anything in DirectX. It costs to have the Fraps watermark disabled, but it may be worth it to you.
Danfun64 Posted May 8, 2009 Author Posted May 8, 2009 trouble is, i have vista and and ati hd card. when i try to play any xvt based game (this includes tie95 and xwing95) and xwa demo, it freezes the game in hardware mode, but works perfectly in software mode. not sure about xwa full though, as i dont have it. I have fraps already edit: somehow i got hardware to work, but i dont know how.
Wildstar Posted May 9, 2009 Posted May 9, 2009 I see...modding the DOS games is even harder. I suggest finding a different machine to run XvT on.
Danfun64 Posted May 9, 2009 Author Posted May 9, 2009 I see...modding the DOS games is even harder. I suggest finding a different machine to run XvT on. only comp i have. I lost my copy of tie95, but if i get it i wanna know if there is something the equivilant of x-wing mission reporter. Its hard to trust screenshots these days . also, since i dont have it, can you test it for me? and if it works and there is an equivilant its off to buy tie 95? edit: i tried putting the xvt cockpit files in the floppy version of tie fighter and got a wierd error message.
Danfun64 Posted May 10, 2009 Author Posted May 10, 2009 See what I meant about DOS TIE being hard to mod? I realized that, but i still didnt get my questions answered. Can you answer them?
Wildstar Posted May 10, 2009 Posted May 10, 2009 TIE95 (and XW95, for that matter) both have a film engine, and use the same model files (the ones for the XvT engine). It's hard to make the fighters on the other side (Imperial for XW95 and Rebel for TIE95) flyable in both games, though.
Danfun64 Posted May 16, 2009 Author Posted May 16, 2009 I found this, i know its old, but what i want to know next is also old: http://tatooine.fortunecity.com/gernsback/451/tiefly.htm It claims to have cockpits of tie fighters on x-wing using the craft provided. It also said that similar patches are for tie fighter. Where can i find these similar patches? edit: link doesnt work for download. Anybody know where i can download this baby? edit 2: i downloaded a zip decorrupter and got all the files needed. Still waiting for a good mirror just incase and the tie fighter version though edit 3: how do i install such patches in dosbox? I had the same trouble with x-wing 2. HELP!
Wildstar Posted May 17, 2009 Posted May 17, 2009 Someone on the XWA Upgrade forums might be able to help you, as the occasional question about modding other games in the series can crop up there.
