Crashing when leaving Sith Base on Taris

I have tried absolutely everything. I have uninstalled/reinstalled the game about 7 times. Tried every patch, and every fix and and every guide for Windows 7 and KotOR but no matter what happens, when I try to enter the elevator to leave the Sith Base after killing the Governer and stealing the launch codes my game crashes half way through the loading screen. This happens every single time, its not random.

 

Does anybody know what I could do? Is there anything I can do?

1680x1050 (running the game at 1280x960 because ws patching made it more buggy)

Windows 7 Ultimate

2GB DDR2

Have you tried the Dantooine lag fix?

• First, figure out where the .ini is installed. Default is "C:\Program Files\Lucasarts\swkotor(2)\swkotor(2).ini". If its not in that location, then your going to have to do some searching around on the hard drive a bit.
  
• When you find it, just double-click on the file to open it in Notepad.
  
• Scroll down the file until you find the Graphics Options
  
• Under the last line ("last line" as in the last line of the list of entries under "Graphics Options", NOT the last line of "swkotor(2).ini), add "Disable Vertex Buffer Objects=1", without the quotes.
  
• Goto File, then Save.

You'll also probably want to set CPU affinity every time you launch the game:

After starting the game, press Ctrl-Shift-Esc to bring up the task manager. Right-click "Knights of the Old Republic" under the applications list and select "Go to process." Right click on the highlighted process (probably something like (sw)kotor.exe) and select "Set Affinity..." In the dialog box that comes up, deselect all but one core. Then return to the game and see what happens ^/_\^

 

Just remember that you'll need to do this every time you start the game.

I am running KOTOR on Vista 64 on a AMD X2 with a ATI 4830. After following the sticky posts, and several reinstalls, I managed to get KOTOR running. I never could Set Affinity to 1 processor, but it was functioning. It has worked fine up until I am trying to leave Taris (sp?). What is bizarre is that I have left the planet once, and was fighting on Davis's ship. I worked my way into the torture room, and I was killed. At this point, I exited program and decided to return to my old save game on the planet and finish up some quests I still had open. Now when I leave Taris, it plays the cut scene of the ship in space over the planet. It then crashes and windows tells me it is unable to run. I have tried going back to other saves and this hasn't worked. I even tried chaging resolutions just for grins. Anyone have any ideas?

As far as setting affinity goes, do you have "Show processes from all users" checked?
