Kreia001
Hello Everyone, Again I am back, but this time I have a mod idea I will try to create myself, and learn the arts of modding. Only I thought maybe some of you can give me some tips? I am planning to create a recruitment mod. It will have a new and unexpected character and a new storyline with the character. Also it will have new quests and perhaps new modules. So I thought maybe some of you skilled modders can give me some advice and tips? Already thanks! By the way it will be a recruitment mod for Star Wars Kotor II TSL.
Darth InSidious
My first piece of advice would be to make it for KotOR I. Due to the level of character interaction in KotOR II, any recruit mod of reasonable complexity is going to be replete with errors, bugs, your character speaking like the one it replaces, or other miscellaneous problems. My second piece of advice is to plan everything in advance. Down to the smallest minutiae, even before you think of opening KotOR Tool. This is essential if you hope to see a project of any real scope through to completion. My third piece of advice is to do your research. Read the tutorials in the relevant sections on the relevant subjects. Try them out. If they don't work, read through your version to try and work out why. If you're writing a script, try to understand what each part is for, so you know what's gone wrong if it doesn't work. Or at least try to copy the script accurately and without silly mistakes. My fourth piece of advice is to think carefully when modding. Sleepwalking through it will only lead to making mistakes which, with just a little more care, would have been obvious to you. Be prepared to help yourself - it may be that no-one else can. Finally, be generous in crediting/thanking others, polite and thorough over permissions, and scrupulous in observing both the letter and the spirit of the rules of the community. And that's everything important I can tell you about modding.
greggomonkey
I can say that your mod should be well planned, as indicated by Darthy, also if you are making a recruit mod you should see what there is out there. This will help make your mod more unique, also a unique skin helps to sell it abit. If you really want to go all out you can give the guy full out items Ex: Armour, weapons etc.
