Galimor
Hi. I'm having this problem with KotOR where the game starts, the first 2 movies and the title screen goes by without a problem, but when it's time for the menu to appear the screen goes black, but I can still see and move the curser, and the music is playing. When I press CTRL+ALT+DEL to get the task manager up, it has the same resolution as the game, 800 by 600, and KotOR is unresponsive. I have to abort the process to exit it completely. I'm running a windows 7 home premium 64-bit system. I followed the installation instruktions in this thread to the letter: http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?t=194324 Also, here is the info from the hardware scan: [sWKotOR] ReportDateTime=2010-04-05 17:31:36 SysInfoVersion=v1.00.60 GameExists=1 GameVersion=v1.03.514077 GameInstallLocation=C:\Program Files\LucasArts\SWKotOR\ [OS] Name=WinXP Version=Windows XP v5.1 build 2600 Service Pack 2 Service Pack=Service Pack 2 Status=Pass [swapFiles] ?:\pagefile.sys=0 [CPU] CPUCount=4 CPUSpeed=2306 CPUFamily=15 CPUModel=2 CPUStepping=3 CPUVendor=AMD CPUName=AMD Phenom 9650 Quad-Core Processor 2306MHz Status=Pass [Memory] RAM=1024 Status=Pass [Disk Free Space] C: (NTFS), UNICODE=74.77GB D: (NTFS), UNICODE=158.78GB E: (NTFS), UNICODE=170.73GB Status=Pass [CD-ROMs] DriveLetters=F:\,G:\,H:\ Drives=_NEC DVD_RW ND-3540A ATA Device [Video] Video Card Name=RDPDD Chained DD Video Memory=4096 Desktop Resolution=1920x1080x32 @ 60Hz DirectX=DirectX (9.0+) (4.09.00.0904) OpenGL Version=3.2.9704 Compatibility Profile Context OpenGL Vendor=ATI Technologies Inc. Q
Did you try the suggestions for ATI cards in step 9 of the second post of the Vista/7 thread?
Galimor
I do believe that I tried the atioglxx.dll one, though I'll try again. Havn't been able to find any "ATI System Tools" on google though. EDIT: I'm wondering, how do you extract the atioglxx.dll from the hot fix? Or are there other places I could find it?
Q
I don't know. I don't have an ATI card. Sorry.
Galimor
Oh, no problem. I'll see what I can find:P EDIT: Ok, this is what I found on google. It linked me to a steam forum where they explained how to find and extract it. Here: Wow. That's exactly what I thought the problem was. I updated my ATI drivers and then it stopped working for me too. Could you maybe give me instructions on how to locate and move the atiloglxx.dll file and where exactly to move it? 1) Download the 9.12 Catalyst Hotfix here. http://downloads.guru3d.com/ATI-Catalyst--9.12-hotfix-Win-7-%7C-Vista-(32%7C64-bit)-download-2450.html 2) Start to run the installer but don't finish it. You just need the installer to extract the files to c:\amd\9.12 blah blah blah so you can actually find the file you need. 3) Go to that folder and do a search for atioglxx.dl_ 4) When you find that file copy and paste it to a simpler directory, I just pasted it to C:\ 5) Open a command prompt as administrator by running cmd.exe as administrator. 6) Change your directory by typing into the command prompt: CD C:\ 7) Expand the atioglxx.dl_ to it's uncompressed form of atioglxx.dll by typing this into the command prompt: EXPAND atioglxx.dl_ C:\atioglxx.dll 8) When the .dll file is uncompressed copy or cut paste it to your swkotor folder in steam apps and run the game. Note: A google search brings up a few places were you can just download atioglxx.dll but I wasn't exactly trusting of that so I did it the long way myself. Someone else might try the downloads if they like. EDIT #2: I have tried the atioglxx.dll one, didn't change anything, and I can't seem to be able to make game profiles with catalyst control center. Any ideas?
Q
Not really, no. I haven't messed around with ATI drivers for years. They're the Achilles' heel of ATI card ownership. Sorry.
Galimor
So, I've got it working now. I disabled the atioglxx.dll by adding a _ to the name, and now the game works. Do you think I can install the widescreen "hack" to it, without messing up what I have accompished, making the game unplayable? Last EDIT: Ok, I have applied the resolution "hack" and am now playing on 1920x1080 It's working, and I'm happy. Thanks for all the help. I hope this might help some other people too.
