TheJoe Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 So I have this awesome soundfont set up with timidity++ and the Monkey Island 2 theme sounds so amazing I want an MP3 of it. This technique worked for making an MP3 of Sam and Max: Extract the General MIDI theme with ScummRev timidity.exe -Og theme.mid However, oddly enough, in MONKEY2.001 I see no General MIDI. Just Adblib, Roland and PC Speaker which all sound pretty awful. So why on earth does ScummVM play the correct General MIDI, but with ScummRev I can only find pretty bad versions? What I'm looking for, essentially, is the completely untouched, General MIDI theme as played in-game for conversion to MP3 with Timidity. Because it sounds incredible with this soundfont. ---- For those curious, I'm using Shan's Soundfont. It's 200MB and so awesome it's unbeleivable.
s-island Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 Monkey Island 2 was made before General MIDI became widespread. ScummVM does a simple instrument conversion on-the-fly.
TheJoe Posted June 26, 2010 Author Posted June 26, 2010 Ah, so I must find out how to have timidity output a MIDI file somewhere. This would be easy on Linux, I used to make MP3 rips by going to /tmp/ and getting the temporary wav from there. I don't know where it is in Windows, however.
Monkey Mania Posted June 26, 2010 Posted June 26, 2010 It's a shame soundfonts died a couple of years ago. If you have a Soundblaster card, you can load the soundfont directly into your ram and there is a new recording option called "What you hear." I can now record any audio that my speakers put off.
TheJoe Posted June 26, 2010 Author Posted June 26, 2010 Oh, how I would love a Soundblaster... Stuck on a terrible Realtek onboard. With the whole "HD AUDIO CODEC IS SUPER AWESOME COOL LOL" driver.
