Darth Dan 012
Would anyone be able to restore the TXI files which Obsidian left out of the PC version of KotOR 2? The transparency of the weapons, droids, doors, and other objects is pretty unpleasant. Thanks.

As a prediction the issue is newer graphics drivers, for example the latest driver of my Nvidia graphics card is making some things in the original KotOR see through in my game, having never been before. The only way to fix it I can see would be to roll back drivers? That obviously depends on age of machine.

I was basing my information a quote from 2007, it may be outdated: The reason for this is because Obsidian forgot to give the textures for those files a TXI file, and so and alpha channels will become transparent rather an shiney or reflective. I'll try to roll back my drivers. I have Intel HD Graphics, and a pretty much brand new computer.

Hey, no worries about the quick response, sorry I didn't phrase this well (I was in a rush at the time), when I said "What are you talking about" - I was more meaning if it would be possible to have some screenshots of the problem. At least in my version of KotOR 2, I don't have any issues with see through things, unless its a custom item. You have any luck on the driver roll back, at least on my computer, I haven't had issues with KotOR 2 and see through things. The issue may also be the Intel Graphics, my mini-laptop (an old Sony Vaio TN-1) will play KotOR but the integrated graphics card tends to have problems with shiney textures. As far as I know there are not any downloadable mods which fix the .txi problem, though I'll have a hunt of the various archives I keep.

However, I did get some advice from animator "Hunters Run" at the TSLRCM forums. I once had this problem also. It turned out to be my intel video card. What happens is that it does not read the alpha channels correctly and anything that is supposed to be shiny, bright, etc. shows up transparent. There are two solutions for this, one is to get a new video card if you have an intel. The other may take awhile but you won't have to get a new video card. First, download kotor tool. Next, go through all the textures that have code that turns into a .txi file and extract them.(note- it is important that you highlight the code and click write file). Next open photoshop (or gimp) and change the alpha channels so that it is completely white (or maybe dark it has been a while since I did this). Save as and copy to your override folder. It shouldn't be transparent any more. I did try this out, though my lack of knowledge with Photoshop made the process difficult. Eventually I did get the transparency to stop, but the texture ended up being a pure white color. I'll do some more fiddling with PS and see if it works with other objects. Thanks again. Easiest option, just open the .tga go "save as" and uncheck the alpha channel setting so you save the file without the alpha channel. The alpha channels, are in the seperate "channel" setting in Photoshop, you could try just deleting the alpha channel completely and seeing if that worked. Let me know how you get on, I can do a quick tutorial with pictures if you can't figure it out.
Darth Dan 012
Hey, it worked! Thanks! Now the only problem is finding the names for all of these textures.
jonathan7
Hey, it worked! Thanks! Now the only problem is finding the names for all of these textures. I can't be too much help here, as it's a bit of a case of hunting through the textures in KotOR Tool, though the PC's and NPC's will be found in "ERFS", "Texter Packs" and "swpc_tex_tpa" and then the "N" and "P". Weapons are under "W". Hope that helps!
