Hex Editing Question

So, I was trying to make my own saber, using some posts made by T7. I got stuck at hex editing.

How do I edit the .mdl to point the saber to use my texture. Ive seen some posts but can someone explain JUST the hex editing. Im using XVI32.

Well, if I'm not mistaken the hex editing is required, but it just makes the .mdl file point to the new .tga file, e.g. w_lsabreturq02.tga. This is done so that you can create a .txi file named w_lsabreturq02.txi with these written inside:

 

Show spoiler
(hidden content - requires Javascript to show)
blending additive

decal 1

 

In other words, to put it simply, it doesn't have to point to your texture, as long as you follow T7's instructions and change the ModelVariation, etc. Again, if I'm wrong, corrections are appreciated.
