shaygan
Hi all, I'm replaying this fantastic game lately, I'm at the year 4 in the Hector's Casino. You're supposed to launch the sheet on Charlie who's playing the slotmachine, and there is an agent supposed to be here so that you can talk him to modify the slotmachine. The problem is that I spoke once to this guy, then he "left" somewhere into the 3D environment, so I can't make the Charlie stuff, and I can't get out of the casino neither. I'm stuck cause I only have one recent saved file and I don't want to start over. I found saved game files here http://www.grimfandango.net/?page=saves but once I put them in the right directory, he says it's impossible to load them. I guess it's because of the dialog files in the same directory (grimlog##.htm files) because with the downloads only come the .gsv files. I'm playing with RESIDUAL VM on a mac. Any help appreciated. Thrik
For a start, I recommend posting a bug report on the ResidualVM issue tracker and including your saved game, so this problem can be fixed for when you next decide to replay the game and/or other people do the same. I'm not sure what can be done about the saved game issue, maybe the ResidualVM team can advise on that. The saved games are very old though, I know because I put them there 8+ years ago. I'm currently building a whole new collection of saved games while playing through with ResidualVM, but I'm far behind where you are right now. Maybe in a week or two I'll have caught up. One last resort you could try is to open up the game in debug mode, and then use Ctrl+P or whatever the command is to skip through the game's scenes. While this isn't ideal because script changes probably won't be logged properly, if you skip to a fairly 'clean' spot such as the beginning of Year 4 it might work. shaygan
Ok thank you well I don't know if there is a bug as I can properly find the folder with my own saved files and when I put the one I downloaded I can find it in the game, it just won't load and say some error message. I guess what I would need is the proper grimlog file as well as the .gsv file. But yea if you happen to go somewhere near that point in the game and give me you saved file that would be nice ; ) Otherwise could you explain what you mean by open up the game in debug mode is it something I can do with residual vm or is it a windows only feature? Thanks.
Thrik
Debug mode was in the original game, but it's accessed slightly differently with ResidualVM. You can read more about it here: http://wiki.residualvm.org/index.php/Grim_Fandango_Debug_Mode It opens up a number of features. Ctrl+G ('Jump to set') is most likely what you want, as it'll let you jump to any scene in the game. You need to be careful here because jumping between scenes can cause obvious issues if, for example, you skip a bunch of scenes where you pick up items that you need during later scenes. My advice would be to start a new game, then use the 'Jump to set' feature to skip to the beginning of Year 4 — at this point I think your inventory is cleared anyway and you won't be expected to have talked to anybody by that point, so it shouldn't matter that you've started a new game. shaygan
Wow nice. I had to search a bit the config file (found it via this link http://wiki.residualvm.org/index.php/Running_ResidualVM) but now I can move to sets so I was able to get out of the casino I'll let you know if I'm able to continue the game Thank you.
