XWA and 3d Cards

Hello!

 

I love XWA and XvT and especially Tie Fighter.

 

Trouble is these games really don't like 3D cards, especially XWA.

 

I've had maybe 4 to 5 newer computers and 3D graphics never worked on anyone of them and were always garbled.

 

So after giving up on buying a compatible new laptop, I've decided to build an old gaming desktop rig, I want it to be specifically compatible for XWA, XvT and Tie Figher and also the Alliance graphics update (which requires a good computer and powerful graphics card).

 

It's going to be based on a Dell Optiplex 780 with Core 2 Duo and Windows 7 Pro 64-bit.

 

So having said all this anyone know of the highest spec graphics card that can work with these games? I would like to have the power to play newer games as well as these Golden Oldies.

I would think an ATI card would work as long as you install the Feb. 2013 driver. You may also need Reimar's XWAHacker (Google for it, b/c I don't know the URL for it off-hand).

Hi Wildstar, just tried one computer again and managed to sort it with Reimars patch, must have not been around years ago.

 

I'm going to go with an HD6570 1gb.

 

I read somewhere it's best to stick with a maximum of ATI Radion 6 series as higher series don't have OpenGL and other support for older games.

 

Heard also GeForce don't like old games.

 

Once I get it setup will report back.
