thrombox
Hello! I love XWA and XvT and especially Tie Fighter. Trouble is these games really don't like 3D cards, especially XWA. I've had maybe 4 to 5 newer computers and 3D graphics never worked on anyone of them and were always garbled. So after giving up on buying a compatible new laptop, I've decided to build an old gaming desktop rig, I want it to be specifically compatible for XWA, XvT and Tie Figher and also the Alliance graphics update (which requires a good computer and powerful graphics card). It's going to be based on a Dell Optiplex 780 with Core 2 Duo and Windows 7 Pro 64-bit. So having said all this anyone know of the highest spec graphics card that can work with these games? I would like to have the power to play newer games as well as these Golden Oldies.
Wildstar
I would think an ATI card would work as long as you install the Feb. 2013 driver. You may also need Reimar's XWAHacker (Google for it, b/c I don't know the URL for it off-hand).
thrombox
Hi Wildstar, just tried one computer again and managed to sort it with Reimars patch, must have not been around years ago. I'm going to go with an HD6570 1gb. I read somewhere it's best to stick with a maximum of ATI Radion 6 series as higher series don't have OpenGL and other support for older games. Heard also GeForce don't like old games. Once I get it setup will report back.
