Guest Nerf Herder
Would mounted troopers/adv mounted troopers with all upgrades be better then using mech when you're a weak mech civ? I'm going to try to use the troop civs for awhile. I find them fun right now. I first started out with the mech based civs, GE and TF. I then jumped to the RA (Rebel Alliance) and found them fun. Now the Wookies are my next civ. I was wondering if it would be worth just going adv. mounted troopers instead of building weak mechs. Well if you can help that would be great, but I'm going to do some testing for sometime and see what I like better, but I'd like to hear from you guys. duder
In all honesty they are probably the unit I have barely used since playing the game...can anyone tell me when they come in particularly useful?
Guest Kudar
Useful for taking out sentry posts, turrets, artillery, pummels and slow moving stuff, I don't use them much either though.
Zendjir
I only use them for taking out slow stuff too. I am currently in the 6th Gungan mission, and I only use them for taking out the TF artillery that occasionally deploys out of range of my turrets. I tried using them in combats..but it didnt work. The enemy just scatters all over the place, and my mounteds run after them, getting scattered too..and eventually killed. The problem with these guys is that they stop..and then fire, in AOK that wasnt a problem, most troops were melee, so everyone stood, and fought. But in this GB the enemy just waaaalks awaaay. I have not played multiplayer yet, so I dont know how they work there. I can Imagine that they do work when used in numbers as a flanking or rearcharging force to throw the enemy in confusion, or to attack units that use the 'stand ground' stance. Would that work? Guest Supreme Warlord
They really dont serve much use except take out slow things like you guys said. THey are not ideal attack army. Maybe Ideal defense... I mostly build Bombers and Fighters for my defense. and of course i build turrents and fortress and make my base a super strong base hehehe. Guest BountyHunter
I think they are prettymuch useless and they always seem to be getting in my way. Oh wait...maybe they are useful for drawing the fire of enemy turrets and troops.
Guest SDRAWKCAB
i almost never use them. 'cept for killing critters.

Guest Nerf Herder
My reason for asking is that since I'm going to be using a troop/air based civ I thought they would be the cheapest way to get rid of the AA machines that usually escorts a battalion. If they are using AA troopers and I have enough Air units I can usually kill them if I directly attack each AA trooper. I was thinking that using Adv. Mounted Troopers would be good their cheap costs and since I will have a couple of troop centers I won't be needing to waste resource on building Mech centers when they are not very strong with troop based civs. My strategy with the AMT would be to come from the side and not directly head on because I know they would be annihilated if they did. Do you find that a feasible strat. Well I'll still try it out and see what happens. I'm still trying to get to tech3 in under 22 min. so I'll be practicing for awhile. Wish me luck. Guest Nerf Herder
Thanks for the encouragement. Lately I've been getting my arse kicked. I need to find a better way of teching up faster. And like you said I have to find my style.
Jedi_Knight
they are okay for quick in and out raids taking out a building or two then back to base for healing
Knights_Q2
No, they are not worth it. The only thing you would want them for is for things that mech destroyers or grenadiers can do better.
Jedi_Knight
they are good against buildings though
Dagobahn Eagle
I use them early in the game to take out turrets before they get minimum ranges.

Guest Supreme Warlord
I dont use the mounted troops against building. Plummels is better but if you want to save nova crystal then you use the mounted troops
Darth_Rommel
I use them for defense, mostly. I always have about 10 inside my base/walls, to protect from the pummel threat!
Heavyarms
they are crap. They don'trespond to commands, and would rather kill a farm than a trooper. I hate those things, they need some serious overhauling.
DroideCog
I only use mounted troopers for 2 things: early counter to Jedi (before T3) Send A few with a trooper rush to take out buildings more quickly otherwise, they do seem rather useless. lots of HP, but they cant seem to get close enough to hurt anything
Guest TarlSS
Mounteds are good against Heavy Weapons, not much else. They're decent against lone assault mechs, but that's a rare sight. I find them useful for supplementing pummels when building next to an enemy base. They build fast and wreck buildings at a modest rate. Particularly good for taking out powercores. They can run through dense fighting without pathfinding problems and kill the power generators competantly.
