What you guys are using from what I can tell is java(web) chat trying to connect to the IRC server. msn messanger is a bad example, simply put it's a chat room. where you can send files, etc. just a place to hangout. the best way to get to these IRC Channels... that's what there called channels (or rooms withing the server) is using a program like mIRC32. at first it's a little intimadating... but once you get into it you'll be an IRC whore in no time.
