acdcfanbill
dont forget that thr released GF4 (the mx 440 and so on) aren't even fully compatible with directX 8.x why they would go backward from the geForce3 i dunno, prob to quickly get ahead of ATI... just though i should mention it... Roger
Where did you hear that they're not compatible with DirectX 8.x? As far as I know they're totaly compatible.
acdcfanbill
tomshardware is where i read it... lemmie browse around and see if i can find the article... here we go... Still, none of the GeForce4 MX cards has full DirectX 8.x support, because of its lack of vertex and pixel shaders. This weighs heavily when you remember the lowest priced offering out of the GeForce4 Ti bunch of cards. It's only $20 more than GeForce4 MX460. link to article thats why the GF3 is prob a better card til the Gf4 Ti's come out... doncha love digging up information? Redvan
The GeForce 3 is only about $130 and its pretty good, i personally don't have it, but many a Tribes 2 player do, they all say its good. I have an ATI Rage Fury Pro 32mb. Works fine. That we got new at a computer show for about $50.
Roger
Oh you're talking about just the MX. I thought you were talking about all the Geforce 4's. Yes that is a problem with them, that's why I advised against buying them. Thanks for the link!
pinkpanther718
Ok, I've decided on the Geforce 3 ti 200 after reading all yor posts, some more info and that article it seems like the best choice. I found it on pricewatch for $127. Does anyone know if it comes standard with 64 mb DDR? Some of the descriptions there say DDR SDRAM so I'm not sure which it is. Chanke4252
who makes the one on pricewatch, and yes i think they all come in at least 64mb, and type of ram shouldnt matter a whole lot.
acdcfanbill
well, the MX is the only one you can get yet, unless you wanna pre-order the Ti's.... i though he was looking at the MX's so i figgured i would spit that bit-o-info out... Ihatetheblind
I would recomend against an mx chip. They are good for the money you pay, but they are kind of like buying a celeron instead of a p3. All the mx chips only have 2 rendering pipelines instead of 4 like the normal geforce 2/3. So right there you cut your preformance in half. If you want a good card that will run the game for a good price, buy an mx. If you love games and play them often, than treat yourself and go with a geforce3 ti. At higher resolutions you'll find the mx's just don't deliver the fps as well. Kx_Dra_Sycdan
i'm also looking to upgrade my video card, so should i get a Geforce 3 ti 200 or should i just wait a couple of days and get a Geforce 4 ti?
Roger
GF 3 Ti is one third of the price of a GF 4 Ti. So it depends on the amount of money you want to spend. Also, how fast is your CPU, it might limit the GF 4, so you don't even notice a speed increase over a GF 3.
