Pid
I am soon going to be making a single player mission, which will take place around the time Hoth is invaded. Do you think it would be ok if I had Kyle as the player or might it be more sensible to have the player as Luke or Han or even Chewie or Leia! To accomplish this I am going to need to get hold of a ton of images of inside the Hoth base. Some skins (that I could make) and possibly some new character models such as Snowtroopers, Han (in snow outfit), Chewie, Luke (in snow outfit), Leia (in snow outfit), rebels in snow outfit possibly a medical droid, snow speeders and I was thinking of putting some voices in for scripted events such as cinematics. I was thinking of an AT-AT as well but might not be possible, instead a brush-made one perhaps very far way where the player can't reach with large turrets on it firing blindly ahead with blasters on the player's side returning fire. What do you lot think? Anyone want to volunteer doing voices, Echo base areas or models/skins? *edited to correct spelling errors
TheJackal
I think it would be cool if you played just a simple rebel trooper and run around the map and get glimps of han, leia, c3p0, r2d2 and chewie. or even be a snowtrooper entering the base and see the flacon lifting off etc. It would be more fun in my opinion if you get to play the story of someone else and get to see people from the movie from a distance. It would leave more space for a story then being limited to the movies.
Pid
Yeah that's what I had planned if I was going to be Kyle. I was thinking of getting called somewhere else away from the control room and hearing that guy tell Han to report to the command centre followed by Han, Chewie and co walking out of medical into the command centre and then a guard standing next to the door so you cant go back in. After so long in this other place doing a simple tast you have to help with the evacuation. Turn on the Ion cannons and then bump into some Stormtroopers and probe driods on the way back and then escort some pilots to their ships. Yeah a rebel soldier would work. Hehe and I'm going to have a script that makes C-3PO and R2D2 start wlaking across the hanger bay with him saying "Oh R2 wait for meeee!" as you enter the room. Morbo
This is a good idea, IF you can pull it off successfully. I think the most reminiscent image that sticks in our mind from Hoth is the ground assault with ATAT walkers.. If a situation could be made from the perspective of an invading stormtrooper dropping down from an ATAT and running across the battlefield, that would be EXCELLENT. The rebel perspective have been done so many times, its old, boring, blah! -Morbo ----------------------------------- All Humans are VERMIN in the Eyes of MORBO! Pid
Aye well either a Rebel pilot or even an Imperial trooper. If the map is successful, we could make some of the other parts of Empire and create The Empire Strikes Back MOD! And then sell it to LucasArts for touching up and marketting! oooh ooh! sorry Im getting over-excited. Well I wasn't intending to do a huge outdoor snow battle, just inside the Echo base and in and outside around the hangerbays. If I have 2 maps then one could have the raining effect we see in JK2, only it will be snow. I'd love to put Vader in there too, although a Rebel trooper vs. Darth Vader with force and lightsaber... no chance
CrazyJedi
So use that as the ending! You've finished your duties and are on your way to an evacuation transport when suddenly you run into Vader, who force chokes you, ending the mission.
Davhowell
maybe you could model 2 at-st's together and just model aroudn them to make a at-at and if you play as luke it would be cool to make like a grapling hook so you could get into a vehicle err something
MessiahErebus
It occurs to me, running with the vader choking you idea... you could make several scenes/events from the movies or a single movie, where you play a trooper on one side or the other, (side could alternate from mission to mission), and you relive moments from the movies, but from an alternate perspective. The perspective of all the forgotten ones who made the ultimate sacrifice. For example: the rebel that gets choked by vader on the (Tantive IV I think it is?) boarding--firefight--a mission objective like (getting to the computer center and clearing them out of the DS plans) and then ending up getting captured and killed after that. would be a cool cutscene at the end. A stormtrooper wandering in mos eisley(sp?) you have to search certain areas, (maybe 6 or 7 small to medium buildings, dont know what could attack you though) and then get the call to check out a disturbance in the cantina, then after you talk to a certain person there, get the call to the docking bay, and get killed by han. A stormtrooper on the death star--no ideas on that specifically though. anyway that is my take on things.
Pid
Well yea much like Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith. You play as Kyle at one point and then you start playing Mara Jade. Or in The Phantom Menace (quickly-made game) you play 4 chatacters in that! I would prefer to have you just play just 1 character for the Hoth mission or have it slit it into 2 parts. If I were to make the whole episode then I might then have you play different characters. Making a whole episode though looks tough. I think I'll stick to my Hoth mission for now and then decide afterwards. Plus the Hoth battle is the first thing in the film (where any action happens - no point having a mission where Luke fights a big snow monster)
Morbo
About modeling an ATAT from two AT-ST's.. if someone can successfully get that thing to move around in the game world, its gonne look WEIRD. AT-ST's and ATAT's have completely different legs and walking methods, one is like an elephant the other a bird.. so it would be um, interesting to see, but not very practical Would probably be easier to find a prefab model of an ATAT from SWMA.net or 3DCafe, or even remove the prefab from the first jedi Knight game (or second.. crist Dark Forces 2 anyway) and just stick that thign in this engine after conversion..it'll have a lot less polys than the models in the current engine use, but it would probably WORK, at least :\ ANyway, thats all
Skellington
SWMA hasn't existed for well over a year The one that was there is WAY to high poly anyways. The JK one might be worth exploring, but it's definetly going to be way to LOW poly to look acceptable in JK:O. In reality, we're gonna need a new model. Once the tools come out, I might have a go at animating the original JK one, just to figure out its skeleton.
Morbo
indeed thats true. sucks about SWMA, that was a fantastic resource. wonder what happened . Anyway the poly count on the old JK ATAT might be low but I think its a good enough prefab to base more complicated models on. If you can do it, that would be great. My modelling skills arn't what they should or could be at the moment, I need more practice. And, if someone could get the blasters working on the front end of the thing, as well as get in some "death" animations (falling over, I guess) I think some truly fantastic content could be put together. DangerMouse
As soon as I started playing Jedi Knight II I knew that it was a great game marred by somewhat poor level design. It would be great if a group of modders could recreate scenes and battles from the original movies!! I like the idea of the mod not focusing on a well known character but it would be a lot more fun if some sort of force-wielding character was created (Lightsaber battles are the best part... and there could be some very cool modding). bliv
You could always do a member of Rogue Squadron that has been shot down and has to sprint across the snowfield and through the main entrance to the base. He then has to work past squads of troopers to get to his x-wing.
