Delmar
sorry to admit it, but my favorite user-created map in half-life has always been the conversion someone did from canyon oasis. ahh the memories! of course, what i'd really like to see is every map from JK1 ported over to outcast, not just CO. sinoth
if someone does it, make sure they do it right.. battleground jedi 2.0 seemed wrong, somewhat small? you have to admit, though, oasis was a classic, good or bad
D66
I'm waiting for Bespin Mining Station to make a comeback.... That underplatform is a Grip+Push Deathtrap!! HeHe!! Now those were memories "How do I get out of this shaft-thing with the conc" /me places mine under door and backs up aiming conc "Hit use on the door under you" "oh" Shhhh----Beepbeepbeep BOOM--Schreek BOOM! Marauder Moe
Why don't people like CO? I always did. The map had a good "flow" to it. Besides, I think it'd be good for JK2, since the worst a gripper/pusher could do is throw you in the pool.
Foxbatkllr
I hated it because some ass was always standing over by the concussion rifle up in that little spot that you could only get to by swimming through the tunnels. Some ahole would always stay up there and be nearly invincible if he was anywhere near decent. Also the booby traps were annoying. If you remade canyon oasis w/o that one camping spot and without the dang booby traps I'd like it.
Delmar
although that was my biggest gripe about the map, i must say that redoing it to one's personal liking would be doing the entire community a disservice. authenticity is the most important factor to take into account here! Nephand
Battleground Jedi 2.0 is definitely too small! I was glad to see they'd brought it into JO...until I played it. It's just not the map it used to be
Delmar
where is the battleground jedi 2.0 file being hosted? i would like to at least check it out even though i've yet to hear a postive response regarding it...
The Truthful Liar
I'll make it. Seriously I will. I've been creating maps with GtK for a while now, I'm sure I could pull it off... I would work on 2 different versions: The EXACT replica and another more modified version for JO gamers... That is... if you want me too... DeTRiTiC-iQ
With the significant speed changes from JK to JO, a Canyon Oasis level wouldn't play anything like the original, all the skillful jumps could be done easily with level 3 jump.
The Truthful Liar
Maybe... Maybe not - That's why a second version for JO gamers would be appropriate, with specific adjustments, etc... ONLY PROBLEM PEOPLE: I can work on the level. but I would be in the serious need of textures. Sure you can say "Go make your own" but to make this as quickly and nicely as possible would be best. If no one wants to help with texuring I suppose I could convert the ol' jay kay oasis textures into jpg's then spiffy up the graphics. Ideas... and more ideas... gotta luv them Cheers
The Truthful Liar
oh, quick question - I am going to start working on Oasis 2.0 now (weeeeeeeeeeee, what a lame name!! I'll consider using a different name, but untill then it shall thusly be known as 'Oasis 2.0') Question: Where should I post screenshots of the level??? Here??? Cheers
Delmar
sure why not.. and if you need help with textures i am willing to try. i've never done level mods but i am familiar in photoshop. if you can tell me where to get the original textures i'll save you the trouble of "spiffing" them up. unless anyone else wants to take it to the next level and create custom ones..? j3di_BoMbEr
heh heh....co is coming back. after mapping for half-life for jk for 2 years and half-life for 2 years, im making the transition to q3/jo. co will return in all of its glory, with an 100% EXACT replica of the original jk version everyone either loved or hated (my fav map!), along with an completed revamped version designed by me. Kurgan
CO in JK was a great, if simplistic map. The only problem with it was that it so so overplayed, and people made so many bad ripoffs of it ("Big Oasis", "Big Canyon," Oasis Part XVIII etc). There has been at least one CO port for JO. Unfortunately it was very different than the one in JK1 (didn't have the same flow, was smaller, you only "floated" in the water.. it wasn't swimmable, etc). In addition, the "lightning trap" was simply a "deadly floor" that drained your health. Not nearly as cool... As with Battleground Jedi 2.0, another version of this map should be made that's more in keeping with the spirit of the original map, while taking advantage of the new engine. Other examples: Blades of Death was ported, but it didn't have the same cool effect of the "air vents" that carried you through one way glass... or the fan that would chop you up (in the JO version you couldn't turn it off temporarily with a switch, and they should have added dismemberment when it killed you). Nar Shaddaa Loading Terminal was ported (loved that map in JK) but it lacked the Thermal Detonator Traps. Instead we had stupid "blaster" traps replacing all of them. Another thing missing from these maps is the classic need to "flip the switch." In JK2 most switches you just randomly blunder into them and they activate. I'd much rather hit "use" and have it activate that way. Another group of maps that I'd love to see ported are the JK CTF Maps, and MotS had a TON of great maps that should be ported. And how about KFY? That mod should be easy to re-create. Although you would need to make the force an "area effect" rather than just the plain vanialla Ysalamari from JK2 (although doing it the JK2 way would be easiest). Just think of it as a reversal of Jedi Master (although you can still use the saber on both sides) where you get points based on time holding the slug, rather than just kills you get while holding it.
