Vorax
Hey guys, I have have decided to jump in with the moding also. I have avoided it because I have been afraid of getting addicted I have been programming for 19 years, have developed neural network systems, distributed systems, graphics libraries, code genenerators, programming languages and all sorts of other stuff. I am a much better programmer then I am mapper....however, I haven't done any modding, so Snerd, I will probably have some questions for you. I will qualify this though. 1) I am only going to work on MP mods, this will free Snerd to focus on the big boy, Cooperative. 2) In real life I am chief architect of a software company, and a husband and a father, so these things will all have to come first. 3) I have no interest in scripting...but may change my mind when I look at ICARUS 4) I will still be mapping, but again, only for MP and as time permits. So, what shall I build? Hmm... I was thinking of starting with something easy like InstaGib or a CTF mod. Anything else you all would like? - Vorax
TheSnerd
I'm not anymore the only programmer on the team... nana yaoohooo *sings* Oh well, , *cough* ... Great decision and programming IS addictive - I have tried everything else, mapping, modelling, etc. but somehow I kept returning to programming I'd suggest you make a collection of new game-modes for Jedi Outcast, just like a map-pack. You start small and your mods become bigger and bigger. I think that is a good way to make yourself familiar with the code-base. And I'd be glad if you could help me with the coop-mod when I need help!
Guest Jolts
Have any of you guys downloaded the free version of maya and looked into the mel scripting part of it? I use maya and it would be nice if I could continue to use it for everying w/o having to jump back and forth between max/maya and any other programs needed for getting models ingame. The quake3 rally team made a nice little exporter for maya 3/4 that might be worth checking out also.
UniKorn
Mate, the tools you use are your choice. As long as we can skin your models and get them in the game there is absolutely NO PROBLEM

I would be very happy to produce some maps specifically designed for any such mods. EDIT: Ohh... something else that would be great would be a taunt selection menu. I'm working on sounds for the different skins, but it is rather limiting only having one taunt. If you could develop a menu option, where by you hit your taunt key and they select one from an option of five, that'd be great. I can sort out the sounds. I am not making any promises, but I will look into it as soon as I get the SDK. I like specialties in Elite Force, medics, engineers, big gun guys, all that kinda stuff. Would be great to have a specialties for JKII. What is the RTCW respawn? I don't play the game, so please explain. - Vorax
acdcfanbill
there is a clock that has people respawn at the same time... kind of like, everyone who is waiting to respone comes in when the clock hits zero, sort of like another wave, or renforcements...
