Question about Grip

Why doesnt my grip work in multiplayer??

I have lvl 3 grip, i stand a few feet from another player, i press the grip button, and NOTHiNG. This is driving me insane. If it does work, it does so after 10 seconds or so, while others can do it anytime they want. HEEELP

You need to enable "dark" side force powers. You probably still have "light" on.

He said he has level 3 grip so I doubt that is the problem.

 

However, I have had similar problems. Push is a good example of a power that is easy to understand. There's a set of conditions under which you can't push (walking, standing still) and another that you can (swinging, jumping, using another force power).

 

However, grip is not as intuitive as push. I've tried gripping under all of the conditions I listed, there's no pattern (aside from the fact that I think you have to stand still to start a grip), also I know for sure that people have managed to get a grip on me no matter what I do, as long as I don't have absorb on or am out of range. Other times I get a grip off easily, but it's really unreliable, and I have started using lightning if I use the dark side forces.

It may be lag. I'd suggest setting up a multiplayer game with really whimpy bots on your machine, and testing the powers there first. You're not going to get better at online play, but you'll learn how the powers are supposed to respond.

You need the crosshair directly over your target (not like push/pull) and u needa hold it for like 1-2 secs before it pulls into action... sometimes it's just lag. But after u hear the sound, u can freely move u'r target around, even tho they'll seem to get there late.

you dont need to stand still...

 

I wasn't able to bind it to a mouse button like I would have liked but the keyboard it works fine... there's a range.. you can grab people and run with them. I usually do that grab em run em to a door and toss em off a ledge.

I noticed that you have to have over 50% of force power to pull it off...and be REALLY close

FYI if you get caught in someones grip use push to get out of it. Works every time.

Not always. Constantly I have these guys grip me, walk me to the edge of a ledge and drop me, and all the while my cursor is on them tapping push (with my force going down and my hand making those gestures) to no avail.

hmmm, sounds like a lag issue because it is a sure thing on a LAN game. we have tested this pretty hard. Also make sure your push is level 3.

regardless of how you use it, i think everything in the game would be better without grip. I'm tired of playing narshadda or deathstar and having a grip monkey run around with one move to drop people off cliffs. I can see if you couldent move them around, but theirs too much grip in multiplayer anyway

One thing I've discovered - I haven't been able to break a grip unless my push is the same level as their grip. If they're gripping you level 3 and you've got level 2, you'll just sit there and bang helplessly at em until the grip wears off or something else occurs to break it.

a thought- what happens if you activate absorb while in the process of being gripped?

they instantly drop you and you get all your force power recharged (in my opinion its more effictive than push)

I agree I don’t use push anymore… absorb works a TON better. Never fails, where as with push it’s hit or miss.

I just switched to Light Side powers. The Abosorb works well against Force Grip.

another little tip......if you're over a drop already, try using pull and you can bring them down with you.

Uhhhh, I just went and played some duels, and absorb didn't do anything for me--neither when I activated it during the grip, nor when I activated it before. It MIGHT have protected me from damage--I couldn't really tell: damage doesn't start for a few seconds, and I was pushing them away ASAP--but it certainly didn't make them drop me. Both absorb and grip were lvl 3 (they were running around while gripping me).

 

BTW, that's another grip trick to watch out for. If they grip and then run circles around you, back and forth, it's hard to aim to push them.

i used to have this exact problem.......so i went into single player typed in setforceall 3 and gripped most of the stormies in the first mission for practice, after that i seemed to have gotten it to work......sometimes i try to make it work and it doesn't but i get by it because i don't use it often anyways;)

Shooting them with a gun of some kind works too.
