New way to crash JK2 server

While watching my server tonight someone joined and spammed it I think with name changes enough to crash it. Not sure what they did, but this is the last portion of the text on the screen:

Anyone know how to stop this crap? It didn't shut down the executable, so serverdoc unfortunately does not restart it.

I believe there is some command to stop flooding. I think it's like g_floodprotect 1 or something... Look at some other servers and see what it is in their details info.

Hehe, I was reading the ded server FAQ and saw this little ditty and was like, "Hey, this one guy could use that!" :D

 

Put this in your server config file

 

seta sv_floodProtect 1

 

And thats that. :D

I'm aware that "animated" name scripts are quite popular in Q3 and by extension the derivative games. I've had a number of players use them on my server without any problem. There's that last "say" by someone else right before the crash as well. I can't evalute if that contributed or not. Ultimately, if such activity does crash the server, I won't be too worried. The admin bot I'm recoding from RtCW can be configured to auto-kick name spammers. ;)

block him at your router/firewall

 

people like this need to be black listed.
