Logging in as referee

Sorry, RtCW is a Q3 based game and that capability doesn't exist. I did some looking around and found a mod for Q3 that performs this task. You can see a description of it here . I found another one here. So far, I have yet to see any description of these features in the basic Q3 engine, RtCW, or JK2. If you have references for me to look at that demonstate otherwise, I'd love to see them. Based on the descriptions provided about the fuction in these mods, I'd like to see one for JK2 that's similar.

Well..

It IS in quake3. We run a q3 mod called Urban Terror. I do not know for CERTAIN if its in RTCW, but I believe it is. Its also in the other q3-based games I mentioned.

Its handy as HELL. You can have others mod yer server, without giving FULL rcon access...

HELLO? Can SOMEONE official comment on this?

Ok, I checked that out. If you read this:

8.8.0 - Referees

Referees are an experimental feature that has been added to help server admins manage their servers. This feature will expand and be modified as more servers start running beta 2 and admins start giving feedback about what needs to be implemented.

The referee is like a less powerful version of rcon: you can set a password and give it out to trusted players. Unlike rcon, the referee has limited control over how they can affect the server. It gives them the ability to do things like mute annoying players, kick them and even ban them from the server for up to 3 hours.

All referee commands start with the ref command. The basic referee command looks something like this:

ref {refcommand} [{parameters} ...]

Referee commands can only be used by a client who has logged on as a referee using the reflogin command with a valid password. If a password has not been set, or if the server has disabled the referee function, no one will be able to login as a referee.

....which is straight out of the manual for Urban Terror. As you can see this feature is made available by the mod (total conversion actually in this case)...not by Q3. I admit the feature is awesome and I wish it WAS in the Q3 engine. I can tell you with certainty that this feature is not in RtCW nor JK2 without the use of a mod....as for JK2, we don't have the SDK to make the mods yet.

Please don't get bent out of shape that I'm not official enough for you. If you really want a reply, since Raven doesn't post here often, you'll need to email someone. In the end, you are going to get the same answer. I know it's not the one you wanted. Sorry.

I'm not sure, but I HAD to have given a wrong impression to you, by judging your post.

I appreciate you doing that, but I think you did it to "prove me wrong". I never meant any hostility towards ya. I was addressing more the compaies involved, rather than the public.

Um..... I guess you were right.

/me shrugs

Thanks.

Anyone know ANYTHING about this for JK2?

Hmm, this must have been the part that gave me the wrong impression. ;)

Only for the sake of argument...

I read that again, and i still think it, in no way, alludes to me being ticked at ya. The "all q3" comment was only said to explain to you some background, which I couldn't tell if you knew.

You saw that post diff than, I think, most peeps would...

I saw referee option in OSP/ProMode mods for Q3...

What I'll like to see is some kind of AdminMod for Q3... since I runned a few HL servers, I know how helpful it is. It allows you to set passwords for certain "admins", each with specific access to commands, so that you don't have to compromise your RCON password for it. Also it allows some special tricks like teleporting, glowing, and other useless stuff... it also allows voting which is great! more details (atleast on the HL version) here: http://www.adminmod.org

It's the CAPS. I guess I'm just used to reading something in caps with emphasis. So, from my perspective, you were being very "insistent" that not only was I giving you false information about JK2, but also about Q3 and Q3 based games. The first thing I say in my first reply is, "Unless it's something from a mod...." My only goal was to answer your question accurately and it sure felt like you were unwilling to accept my answer. I don't take it personal and I hope you don't either. It's just one of the downsides of a text-only medium of communication.
