White Screen after Starting

HI!

I got a big problem: Whenever i start JK2 i only get a white Screen, and my PC hangs up. I don't know what to do. I don't think it is OpenGL since i played Medal of Honor as well, and this is based on OpenGL as well i think, and it runs perfectly. Does anybody got an idea what to do?

My System: Athlon 1333, Geforce 3 TI 200, Soundblaster Audigy Player, 256 MB DDR RAM

Yeah, I'm getting the same problem. As soon as I double click my shortcut to JO I'll get a white screen with mouse pointer. 99.99999% of the time, it eventually goes into the game screen and everything is fine.

But I've experienced rare moments where it stays on the white screen and I can't even ALT-TAB back to my desktop. I recently upgraded my video card from a V5500 agp to an ATI Radeon 8500 LE 128 DDR. When I had the voodoo card, using the Wicked GL drivers, I had zero problems with the game ....with the exception of somewhat sluggish frames per second (ranged from 10-30).

My specs (everything is updated!!!!!):

P3 700

512 ram

Win '98

SB Live

Latest 4-in-1 Via drivers

Radeon 8500 LE 128 DDR

....any ideas?

well, i waited about 5 mins and nothing happened, my whole PC crashed, could it be that it's not the graphic card but the soundcard? I got a sb audigy player...it's only an idea, but i dont got any other, i got a Asus Geforce 3 with the newest drivers and windows xp, but i also tried older detonator version, but...no chance, still the same problem ;-(

Hmmm...I have the same cards as you, but with no problems with the white screen. Since you are running XP, did you try copying the OpenAL.dll file from the /base directory to the /systemfolder/system32 directory? This should replace the old file so back it up! If it doesn't replace the file, then you have the wrong directory (or I have the wrong directory). Some say that this fixed sound problems for them if you think that the crashing is caused by the soundcard. It could be video card so try updating drivers to nVidia Detonator 28.80 which were released today or yesterday, but be warned that these are beta drivers. Good luck!

I too have had this problem with XP, running a geforce2 pro however. I've tried reinstalling XP, as well as JK2 multiple times, tried about 8 different versions of detonator drivers, and still nothing works.

I had this problem with Return to Castle Wolfenstien, but was able to fix it by editing the cfg file and turning off a couple options. These two games use the same engine, but JK2 doesn't have the cfg file. I am at this point trying a different video card, to see if that is it. One other thing that caught my eye, is that you are using a MSI k7 master Motherboard. So am I. I pulled out every card i had, and switched memory too, to see if i could weed out what was causing the problem. The only pieces of hardware that remained constant were the chip, motherboard, video card, and powersupply. I'll find out tonight if it's the video card, if it's not, then i'll have a strong suspicion it's the motherboard.

Wow, ok, another person having the same problems with the K7 master.

I tried a friends video card last night to see if i could eliminate another source of the problem. I used his geforce2 gts 32meg card, and i had more problems than when i had my card in there. He tried my vid card in his machine and it worked fine, SO - for me, that leaves the Motherboard, CPU, or Powersupply. Doubt it's the cpu, it's not even getting warm, could be powersupply, but it's fairly new, which leads me to the motherboard again. This idea is only strengthened by the fact that others with the same motherboard are having the same problem. I am ordering a new motherboard today, so by friday night, i should have an answer for you all for sure.

I haven't tried any bios revisions or pathes from MSI, might be worth looking into. I was going to get a faster cpu anyway, so a new motherboard was needed, so I may as well get it now. But yes, if i slap in the neew mobo and everything works, then we need to get the word out.

Tried a bios revision last night, with no change. This problem is not a driver issue. I've tried 8 different driver revisions, and two of them were WHQL certified. And yes, those include the 23.11 (which is what i was using to begin with), the 28. whatever they are, 26.52, 15.75 (WHQL) uhm i dont remember past that, but there were about 4 or 5 others.

<shrug> I'll find out when the new mobo gets here, hopefully this evening.

Yeah, i get this same thing... i can usually fix it by changing drivers from 28.32 to 23.11 and then back again, or sometimes reinstalling the game works, but even if i do get it to work, it only works for an hour or so, then freezes up during the game... it's really starting to sh*t me

This white screen thing seems to be an issue. I don't have an answer, but I figured I'd add my two cents in. I think it is definitely a video card problem. Here's my issue. I used to have a voodoo3 and had all kinds of problems, but I never had the white screen when I started the game. I just installed a GeForce2 card, and BAM white screen. I haven't had a lockup problem yet (although I probably will now that I said something), but whenever starting the game, I do get a white screen for about 10 seconds or so.

I also have drived a few different drivers and always a white screen when starting the game.

Oh, and I am running in Win2k, if that makes a difference.

Hmm, so forgive me if I missed something big, but some of you were saying you get a white screen for like 5-20 seconds before the game loads, but it doesn't crash. THIS IS NORMAL. Quake3 did this, RtCW did this..pretty much any game I can think of that used this particular engine did that. After the console looking window pops up for a second after you start the program, you get a single solid color screen with a mouse pointer on it...JO happens to be white. I am pretty sure it's supposed to do that though, .. or else I've just been dealing with something that I don't have to for all these years! ;) But yeah, so unless it's hanging up during that screen, I wouldn't really worry about it, although I bet you could make the screen go by quicker if you did some tweaking :) I Hope I helped someone. Take it easy.
