I wouldnt say I hate it myself, but I seriously have a hard time standing Star Wars. A good game is a good game though, and Im gonna do my share making the game move away from SW as soon as the Mapeditor is released, hehe

This Post is not meant to start some kind of flame war, Im just curious about if there is ANYONE besides me that isnt totaly and completly in love with SW.

All opinions respected though.

I'm curious if there are any specific reasons why you dont like the movies. I'm a big fan of them but I do amit they are flawed in many respects. Are you not a scifi fan, do you not like the style, do you feel they were poorly made, or is there something else? I like a good debate but it helps if I have some specific points to debate.

By the way, I appreciate the the way you started this post. Most would have trashed the movies and acted like a jerk just to get a rise out of people.

Its a Raven game with awesome thirdperson closecombat, and I see a lot of potential in it for upcomming mods.

Ive been playing Heretic II for the last 3 years and been waiting for Raven to make something similiar like that game with a better engine.

I have no problem ignoring the Star Wars stuff, although I think some people here are taking the SW aspect way to seriously.

Whining about Darth Vader never used Sabre-throw in the movies, or what so ever. LOL!

Well, I dunno what to say about why I dont like the movies and the Mythology really. I just find them to be a mix of old 40´s serials and Kurosawa-movies melted together in a mix that dont appeal to me.

To be fair I havent seen them for a very long time (Episode 1 I havent seen at all), and the SP part of the game actually made me interested in giving them another chance.

I do like Sci-fi to some extent, but more like Bladerunner-sci-fi.

Not Cowboys and Indians in space. If I want to see matine´ stuff I prefer fantasy. Especially from Hong Kong with lots of Swordfights and Flying People (Like the Swordsman trilogy) that stuff I LOVE!

And thats another reason I find this game appealing. Just love those high jumps and cool swordfights :-)

Though I am a pretty hardcore Star Wars Fan myself, I always try to respect other peoples opinions and...frankly, it's not like a freaking religion or something, people, especially on these forums, whine WAY too much. Though a lot of times it's because they lose matches...anyway, just wanted to show that some SW fans are level headed lol.

Never doubted SW-fans were levelheaded.

Seems to be lots of cool persons here, its just that its so many

people posting that some are bound to be whiny "L33t d00ds"

at the age of 12.

And they are the ones getting noticed, because the yell so loud.

:-)

Imagine that last weekend when I fired up gamespy there were nearly 5000 people playing online. Pretty Amazing!

LMAO j/k

Morcavalin is a good friend from H2 and a very good mapper, I can't wait to see what he'll come up with for this game and the Q3 engine. It may not be SW related, but I'm sure it'll have a great atmosphere, and a comfortable feel for playing on.

Hiya Purpl,

Thanks for the kind words, Ill do my best :-)

All of you liking Duel-mode are safe in the hands of this guy, PurplWulf, he is responsible for a ton of really good 1 on 1 sabre-maps for HereticII and I happen to know he is very eager to contribute to this Community with his mapping skills as well.

I liked Ep 1 but do think it was a bit on the kid movie side. I've heard that Ep 2 is gonna be a lot darker and more adult with almost no Jar Jar as well.

Thanks for giving your reasons for not liking SW. The only reason I asked is because I have rarely talked to anyone who didnt think the movies were at least OK. Finding people who dont like SW is about as rare as finding people who are huge Tom Arnold fans.

Dunno anybody who hates Star Wars, but I know many who don't care much about it, and I can see their reasoning.

The movies never had that much depth. It's a pure good vs. evil thing. No shades of grey. That's one thing I really miss in the movies. Now, EP II might be different. I don't knoe much about the story yet, but from the trailers there finally coulf be some 'greys' in there. (Though Annakin seems to be acting way too evil already from the looks of it)

But well. we'll see I guess. And after all, one doesn't need a lot of depth to be entertained, and I think that's the main goal of the movies: to entertain!

that's right, the main goal of star wars is to entertain, that imo also the biggest difference to star trek.

star trek has way more grey shades. just look at the 9th movie (9! ffs!). also racial and technical things arent questioned or explained in star wars, they're simply there.

I'm a fan of the old trilogy, but I hate the new one (which really doesn't matter because JO doesn't have anything to do with Ep1-3...phew...).

Episode 1? What is wrong with it?

-Acting. Not just are some of the actors plain bad (@Anakin: "Yipiii!" "Ooops!"), there are almost no memorable Characters. Han Solo and all the others made Star Wars, no characters like them in Ep 1. Oh yeah, and then theres Jar Jar.

-Music. The music was alright, with some very nice sound tracks. But most of it gets annoying quickly, unlike the original. The Anakin Theme for example. Bah. It was totally out of place in the huge Space Battle (IMO).

-Childish. Nothing to add.

Well, that's it. Feel free to flame.

Apart from that fact that Vader did indeed throw his sabre in ROTJ, I know what you mean.

I don't mind if you don't like Star Wars. I don't particulary like Star Trek, and hate Star Trek: Voyager with a passion, yet I enjoyed Elite Force immensley and have enjoyed other Trek games (ok, well Armada, that's it, the rest of them suck).

If a good game is a good game, then why should it's "topic" detract from it.

I mean, GTA3 is about stealing cars and beating people to death whilst commiting all manner of crimes. That's horrible, but it's still a good game and it's fun.

One thing you shouldn't do however is make fun of people who like Star Wars. I'm a Star Wars nut. I saw the Clone War trailer on the big screen for the first time last week and my heart started racing. I lined up at 8:30 in the morning to get AOTC tickets (I did not, however, dress up). But I don't make fun of people who hate it.

Exactly H.B.M.C.

I didnt intentially make fun of anyone loving Star Wars though.

Since I really dont know what you are refering to I dunno what say besides: All opinions respected, especially when it comes to something as trivial as liking or not liking a movie.

I also didnt say that I hated Star Wars. I explained in my first sentence of my post that I didnt. The post-topic was just an attention-grabber.

Episode I had one of the deepest plots of any of the SW movies. Because of this, many "fans" missed it completely (because they thought it'd be blatant like with the others) and then went on to say it had no plot.

-Acting... yeah... Mark Hamill deserved the Best Actor Oscar for his portrail of Like Skywalker in ANH :rolleyess Ian McDarmid (Palpatine) and Ewan McGregor are great in Episode I. But acting was never SW's strongest suit.

-The music sounded like Star Wars music, period.

-Childish only on the surface. The real plot is all about Palpatine and his grab for power. That's what SW1 was all about, and Lucas has said so. Palpatine, under the guise of Dark Sidious, makes a deal with the Federation. They blockade Naboo in return for loosening taxation of traid routs. Naboo, as we know, is the world Palpatine hails from and reprisents. With Naboo and the Federation as pawns, he does three things: he backs Valorum into a corner and forces him to show his weakness. He manipulates Amidala to call a vote of no-confidence, and then he gets the sympathy vote to become Chancellor, himself.

Jar Jar was annoying, but he was alive. He was an alien, not some guy in a costume. For me, the most annoying thing about SW were Captain Panaka's constant reference to "ducks".

SW1 belongs in the SW canon. And SW2 will make it a better movie by exposing all of the subcurrents that were going on.
