Fight in New York

Recommended Posts

As seen in the recent news post, it looks like an awesome team called Wired Lamp Studios are making a map pack, a single-player mod, a utility that lets you play Single Player with your friends, and more.

Quite frankly, I thought this community was going to go down the drain (too many ignorant whiners or immature slash kiddies, not enough innovation and modding...I hate to say this, but JKII almost needs a Planet site) but this team can really give this place a boost. All of their stuff sounds awesome...for instance:

Complex, New York, Sea base, Space Station, and a few other places. Tons of different enemies, and plenty of new never before seen weapons, including a few oldies

-A response to what the new Griffin Mod will hold

New York? Sea Base? That should be some original textures! Sounds great to me...

Whiners don't make mods. There are a lot of whiners, so if you remove all the whiners from the population of all of the JK2 community, there may not be enough people left to be mod developers.

This is his logic anyway, where I actually can see some validity.

I'm mainly worried about what crazy EULA mod developers will have to abide by to make mods using Star Wars content.

My point is the whiners, in almost 100% of the cases, can't spell, don't know anything about computers, hosting, or anything software related; they know just enough to be able to play the damn game and join a server.

These kind of people don't know what brand their computer game is, let alone even host a game that has a custom map.

I guess you can see my opinions of them are quite harsh. :p

EDIT: Rereading what I just typed, I could see where people might take issue, but look at it like this: since most of the people playing JKII don't know much about much of anything (since most are, as I said, whiners or immature slash kiddies) they aren't making, or even supporting, mods. An example is the Carbon Freeze map: I haven't even seen that hosted. You wouldn't see that, in, for example, Return to Castle Wolfenstein. Lack of servers, in my opinion, is because the majority don't know how to make them, or can't be bothered, two-bit gamers.

I run my own server sometimes only about 6 person server for dueling and I have this map in my rotation, but its not that good of a map to run online I think. The reason is you are missing a good portion of it since the teleporters dont work and if you just jump down you loose about 50 health, when the SDK comes out, it should be fixed. I understand what you are saying but I still think alot of things will change when that SDK goes public. The quake series were extremely big with models and maps and so was UT, I think it will be the same for this game. There are too many people playing it not too.

Hey, I didn't know how to join a server until I asked. I bought the parts for my computer about four or five months ago, and have had a modem for two months, and I find it insulting that you think there's almost a 100% probability of me being a whiner.

I agree that there are a lot of people who generally whine and there's some whose whole purpose for being in the forum is to create mischief, but I don't think it's correct to associate whiners with being computer illiterate at "almost 100%"

But it does sound like WLS's "package" is a winner, though. Only time will tell.

:yobi:

P.S. My computers an AMD Athlon 1.3GHz, and I can spell. (Ironic, my first whine is in defense against accusations that I'm a whiner)

No. Lack of servers is because Raven and LucasArts are too damn lazy / ignorant to support dedicated servers. If it wasn't for the guy actually doing a few Linux updates, I doubt there'd be ANY playable servers at all.

MOHAA and RTCW realised that dedicated servers are of prime importance if you wish your game to score well in the MP scene. Apparently Raven seems to have forgotten this.

Lack of servers?

There are lots of servers, at least by using Gamespy 3d instead of the ingame browser.

Dont worry about the whiners, they are just 12-13 year old kids. I know there are lots of people waiting for the tools to start mapping and modding. It will be all fine :-)

About dedicated servers, Raven is working on it.

Ugh, I knew I shouldn't have wandered down this particular track, but oh well:

I'm saying that all whiners are computer illiterate, inconsistent spelling morons, yes. (Take Navaros for example.) So if I saw someone whining, I would think that he doesn't know anything, etc. etc. But if you told me you just got your computer and you have no idea how do anything, I wouldn't think you are a whiner. I would give you the respect I give everyone else. See, there's a difference: YOU didn't ***** and moan, your just new to the computer scene.....I wouldn't think any less of you....and I, of course, wouldn't think of you as a whiner...

With the number of copies sold, there should be a hell of a lot more. And almost ALL of those are pure servers.

Only n00bs whine about whining.

I'm not whining, my point was that these guys frm WLS can give this deadened community a jump start. N00b. :D

Might be, but there are no problems finding servers to join.

About he number of copies being sold I have no clue.

How many have been sold ?

And excuse me for being ignorant, but whats wrong with pure servers?

I had a server running the Carbon Freeze map.

The server name was: CARBON FREEZE!!!(must have map)

I ran it for twenty-four hours, non-pure server , allowed downloads.

Not one person joined.

I even had a thread here asking people to try to join!

Explain that to me.

That's my point! This community doesn't support mods....

First of all, yes, we are going to make a kickass mod :)

Secondly, these people are the modders of tomorrow. These days a lot of people will start creating mods. Most of them won't make it. Why? If they just start in the scene, they will probably accept anyone who knows a little about their stuff. Everyone is real excited and motivated. When the first model or map is created, everyone is jumping like little rabbits, yay!, we are halfway there. Then there is a skinner/texturer who loses motivation, who gives no status reports, who has absolutely no progress. Our mapper, who is busting his ass off to get his maps finished, gets no textures => he loses motivation. And before you know it the team falls apart.

Or there is 1 highly skilled person in the team, a modeller who makes amazing models, the skinner joined the team because he wanted to skin these amazing models, although he doesn't know a lot of skinning, the modeller sees his beautiful model "ruined" by the skinner. He leaves the team, ... But when the next game comes out, these people will have learned, the modeller will need to see the previous work of the skinner, the mapper will make sure that there is a motivated texturer in the team, or he will have learned how to texture himself.

I wrote a small explanation on how to start a mod to help some teams : http://www.lucasforums.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=39024

So I suggest you respect those who at least try to get something done and chase their dreams.
