Xwing989
With air units, I can attack land, air, sea, and only take up one population slot. With air transports, I can still land troops if I want. With navy, you need boats that attack other boats, ones that get air, and ones that bombard land. All of this takes more population slots. Will navy units be cheaper or stronger than air? Lord JayVizIon
that's a good point. however, i'm pretty sure there will be a good emphasis on the sea. if you've ever watched recorded games from AoK, players will use fishing boats early to capture fish to increase their procurement of food. if this is the case with swgb, food plays a very important role and you need battleships to protect them. plus, transports can be sent via the seas so you need ships to stop your enemy dead in his tracks before it's too late... Xwing989
I guess you are right. Air will not be available till the 3rd tech level and naval battles will probably be happening already, but air will probably dominate naval warfare in the end. Lord JayVizIon
oh yeah, air units have the upper hand in terms of being up there and shooting down, but we don't know how powerful each unit is, and if the gungan navy is as good as advertised, they could pose serious problems with the air force... Guest crazy_dog
YESSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Darth_Rommel
Just get a huge fleet of bombers and fighters and destroy all the gungan ships... not that hard

Guest Admiral Odin
Look at it this way. What if your enemy has a very strong Air Defense. Then the air units will not be as effective since they can't reach the enemy base. This leaves Ground and Naval forces to attack.

They are not very good against Mechs and boats and buildings (bombers a good against buildings and that is it) Fighters take on fighters and harass ground troops. Boats will have their worth...I promise you that.

darthfergie
Like Gaber said...Once you go up against the Gungans you'll see the importance of the Navy real quick.
Guest Admiral Odin
Also a Navy can be a great use. If you don't consider teh navy a threat you don't protect against it, then you have a weakness I can exploit.
Lord JayVizIon
agreed. esp. if you play on a map where your base starts out on the edge surrounded by water. early scouting will detect this and any buildings placed near water will be surely destroyed. and that leads the way to water transports with troops... Guest Admiral Odin
exactly, if you ignore something it gives you a flaw in any kind of strategy you use, just if you said Air units suck, but having fighters can keep bombers away. D Don't limit yourself.
JEDI_MASTA
for one thing boats are like siege units that move faster that lets u take down opponetnt buildings near the water real fast and losing a few key buildings or villagers working at a mine near water really hurts your strategy and recources
Guest trade fed fred
I bet they wont alow you to transport At-Ats in air transporst just because there so big meaning you'll have to use your navy.
Link Antilles
Naval units are usely good for backing up a Air Force. Naval units are good at deploying troops in a heated zone and at taking out AA turrets.

Will navy units be cheaper or stronger than air? I actually thought that as well. The problem is, air fighters don't inflict much damage on heavy ground troops and ground buildings. The air bombers are what cause the heavy damage, so air fighters mainly come along to escort. The problem with not building up a strong navy is the following: Without going into too much detail, if you don't have a strong navy: you'll have to have air units designed to defend against opposing naval units. Why? Because the enemy can send transports via water or if you have any fishing taking place, they will knock out your food rather quickly. I find that it is always best to have a little of everything, because every unit has a weakness of some kind.
Guest ZeroXcape
Originally posted by Darth_Rommel Just get a huge fleet of bombers and fighters and destroy all the gungan ships... not that hard Bombers are slow in movement and slow in firing. To have bombers take out much faster naval ships, they'll have to do it when no anti-air ships are around. A bomber would only get one, maby two bombs off before it would be taken out by another boat. The only way to take out a fleet would be by severly out numbering it. Guest crazy_dog
Well I soppuse it really depends on the planet the level/mission is on. If it's like Naboo or Mon Calamari, then it's the Navy, Bespin/ Ord Ibanna, then it's air superiority you're after, although you will need ground troops to fight on the islands and stuff. Guest Darth_Venage
and navies are important because they have one of the games few siege units: the siege ship, like tha cannon galleon off of AoK. You can divert them, or even destroy there anti-air defense, then come in and pummel with air. Or just transport with both. Sea AND air adds a whole new dimesnion of strategy. Guest Admiral Thrawn
Still it will be fun playing with the fighters Everyone will use them before they use the navy when they first buy it.
Guest Warlord
They would not include naval if it was not important, I wouldnt be suprised if they put long range bombard boats, than can hit air units, from long distances, and infantry alike! Guest ZeroXcape
Another major advantage w/naval units are transporting ground units. Naval transports hold 10 units, while air transports hold 5 units. The navy is very strong, and if they have a few anti-air boats nearby - I wouldn't mess w/them. I would mainly save my air units for picking off undefended transports.
