Guest Darth Goku
Hello, I am sort of curious: how much of the development of Battlegrounds is being done in a low-level programming language such as C++ and how much of it is just building MODS on top of the AOE II engine? Are there any enhancements being done to the engine itself to improve performance, etc.? Thanks!
Guest Admiral Odin
I don't know what language it is being programmed in. But I do know that LA is imporving the engine where ever they can.
Guest Gen.Veers
They're probably using C++; using MS Visual C++ as their compilier. That's what most game developers use for developing games.
Guest Darth Goku
That's what I figured. I wonder if they will move over to C# once Visual Studio.Net is released.
Guest Tie Guy
C# isn't released yet, so they couldn't possibly use it on GB. (unless they want to use the beta) Perhaps their next generation of games will.
darthfergie
Okay in every SW game they never want to be copied. So I wouldn't suprised if they have their own language for this game.
AoErat
AoE/AoK is programmed in C++, therefore SWGB is also. Since Lucasarts is licensing the engine, I am guessing that basically what they are doing is changing the graphics and unit/buildings/functions around a bit, along with the engine code-changes to allow for shields, flying units, etc. Gaber has said they improve the engine's preformance whenever possible, so I suppose it will run smoother than AoK. Guest Sherack Nhar
I hope so. AoK was getting choppy in massive, 200+ units battles. If they promise a 200 vs 200 battles, they better get it running smooth!
Guest Tie Guy
Yeah, then imagine you have 700 units for the TF, and the other side has 100, that's 800 units, they better be able to handle that. And, if they can then it means that 200 v 200 will be a sinch.
