BigMexican
is it a fairly simple process that someone can pick up the basics of with a few weeks of learning, or does it require several months to get even the basics down pat? im interested in trying it, but time isnt something i have a lot of, so the faster i can learn it the better
Wired
I'd say that it'd only take a few hours, maybe a day or two, to learn the basics. If if basics you mean how to build simple levels and how to use some of the entities. Building with the quake engines is a lot like playing around with LEGO or something, which isn't all that hard. B0rG
Learning how to use radiant is relatively easy. Learning to use it well in ambitious circumstances is the hard part.
UniKorn
The hardest part is actually finding a good balance between eye-candy and performance. Knowing most of the engines capabilities is a must to create great maps without performance loss.
