JK2 Dedicated Behind Router

Does anyone know how to setup the dedicated server, such that you can have other people join through the internet, not just the lan...

I have setup the router such that it routes traffic that call for port 28070 to the JK2 server...but it still is not accessable by the internet...

Remember that if the server is running and the router is forwarding the ports properly, people should always be able to connect by ip address regardless of what mode the server is running in (listen, LAN, Internet). Thus, if nobody can connect from the outside, either the server is not running or the router is not forwarding the right traffic. Make sure you are forwarding UDP for the server port--that's the protocol the game uses.

The exposition: I had a 2Wire Homeportal 100 and I had no problems running a dedicated server. I had it set up that the machine to host the dedicated server would be forwarding ports 28060-29000 with the UDP part of the TCP/IP protocol suite. Things worked fine. People connected.

But I digress: The router died prematurely and I was able to get a replacement from 2Wire (got to love warranties). After plugging it up and setting the exact same configuration, no one can seem to join through a direct console ip connect and it doesn't show up in the list.

So, I'm double checking here:

- I have the net port set at 28071.

- I have the net IP configured to the local IP given by the router, which, in this case is 172.1.16.34.

- I have application hosting (aka port forwarding) set for that machine. Unlike Linksys, application hosting with the 2Wire seems to use NetBIOS computer names (a whole flustercuck in and of itself, if you ask me) - for example, instead of associating 172.1.16.34 with port forwarding for UDP 28060-29000, I associate it by selecting the name of the computer I want to use and then add the appropriate ports. This was the same on the previous router I had. Also unlike Linksys, there's no way to set up this thing as a DMZ host.

So, in theory, it should work like it did before, shouldn't it? A client should be able to direct connect to my ISP given IP address(64.13.198.225) and the router should, using NAT, translate that and send it to the correct machine hosting the dedicated server, right?

This has me baffled. It worked fine before and granted, the firmware is different on this replacement router, but everything is laid out the same as it was before. I have no earthly clue why it won't appear in the lists or let people connect. It shows up in the local list just fine and computers in my home can connect to it without problem.

*scratches head*

Oh well, if anyone feels the need to try to connect, the IP information is above, and, just a tip, it's still version 1.02 - which is at the request of the people in my group. Any suggestions are appreciated - short of telling me to buy a new router as that's impossible right now due to money restrictions. E-mail me if you'd like: darthperniciosus@cox.net

Never ceases to amaze me.. I do this type of stuff day in and day out at work with a medium sized network.. but can't get a small internet based dedicated server to run at home even though it ran fine before. urgh.
