Lightsaber ignition

Lightsabers use a gem to focus the energy blade, or so we've been told.

I always wondered why vader's saber ignited with a different sound than Ben's and Lukes did: the Pishhffff as opposed to the snap-hisss. (incidentally just load up J:O for an example, the reborn ignite like vader, but it sounds weaker and you ignite like Obi-wan.)

Well, I was d/l'ing trailers today (none on dutch tv) and on the Obi-Wan and Anakin ones it says: "crystal lightsaber", but on Mace's it says: "Electrum lightsaber". Notice how his saber ignites like vader's.

So, now we know, (guess, that is) maybe Vader and Mace used polished electrum to focus their blades in favour of gems. Just an intresting piece of trivia.

Lightsabres can use more than one gem its been known they canuse three at once . For two lengths different colours and of course double lightsabres.Maybe with different amounts of gems a different noise can be made . Also anakin solo made a lightsabre out of a yuzhan vong lambent which is alltogether different.

Maybe because as someone in here said, dark jedis use synthetic crystals to increase the blade's power....

synthetic crystals made the sith's blade thinner don't know about increasing the blade's power...

When they said "Electrum Lightsaber" they were merely refering to the coating of the metal electrum that's on Maces saber. Only Jedi council members are allowed to use it on their sabers.

And yes, Sith used a form a synthetic crystal which made the blades slightly more powerful but also made them not as manuverable. :rhett:

Thanks for the electrum, but a synthetic crystal does not make a blade less "manuverable". It moves where it is pointed.

[edit]Also, not all sith use them, I think it is who wants to, does. Darth Maul I think had a normal crystal.

Qwa? All lightsabers create a gyroscopic force that makes them tricky to handle well. I imagine that's what is increased. Thus rendering the saber less manuverable.

Maybe I'm just using the wrong word to describe it... *shrug* oh well. :rhett:

red sabers are created from synthetic crystals, which means darth maul used one

it was HIS agility that made him a great fighter

the true crystals are not coloured red, they come in blues and greens, mace only has a purple one cos he bugged lucas lol, but i tihnk they are regular crystals 2

and it does make them less maneuverable

but more power is generated by the blade

boba rhett is on the right track above

I recently read Darth Maul: Shadow Hunter, which has the method and how he made his sabre, taking quite a long time, something like 4 days to create his sabre, most of that time getting the crystals right.

Now we can see why they make the comment that they are now a Jedi/Sith, fully trained, by making their own sabre. It is such a long process, that they have to call on all of their training to concentrate for so long, to be able to create the crystals, to go without food, etc......
